Are you passionate about leading a community organisation with an experienced, committed team delivering vital health services to local people facing entrenched multiple deprivation?

The Health Agency (THA) is a leading community-based organisation providing services within the integrated Health and Social Care Healthy Living Centre in Wester Hailes. Set up in 1999, it aims to make a positive and meaningful impact on the physical and mental health and wellbeing of those who live within the local community.

THA does this in partnership with the local community through a rich provision of services covering;

  • Mental Health support through Counselling delivered by qualified therapists
  • Support services to those affected by cancer and long-term conditions such as COPD and long COVID. Services are also provided to relatives, carers, and friends of anyone who has received a diagnosis and anyone bereaved due to cancer
  • Food insecurity and the health inequalities that prevent people from accessing good quality, affordable, healthy food
  • Physical activity and maintaining a healthy diet long term.
  • Community groups for carers, women and more
  • Complementary therapy services
  • A community gardening group and much more

We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our organisation. As the CEO you will be overall accountable for the vision and delivery of exceptional standards of critical services to the local community in Wester Hailes as well as the best possible employee experience for all working at The Health Agency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a community empowerment strategic plan in partnership with the Board that aligns with our mission. Lead the organisation in identifying opportunities as well as adapting to emerging needs and policy changes.
  • Operational Management: Oversee the daily operations of the organisation, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with safeguarding and all regulatory standards. Manage budgets, resources, and employees to deliver exceptional services.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop projects and meaningful cross-sectoral inclusive partnerships with community members. Maintain positive relationships with other key stakeholders, including session providers, funders, local authorities, other third sector and private organisations. Act as the primary spokesperson for the organisation.
  • Fundraising and Financial Management: Lead fundraising initiatives, secure sustainable funding streams, grants and manage financial resources to ensure the organisation's stability and growth.
  • Team Leadership: Inspire, mentor, and manage a dedicated team of professionals, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Promote professional development and ensure employee well-being.
  • Governance: Work closely with the Board to ensure effective and collaborative decision making, governance and transparency. Report on organisational performance, risks, and opportunities.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the third sector or a related field.
  • A solid understanding of the challenges faced by people living in areas of multiple deprivation
  • Evidence of delivering positive and impactful mental and physical health improvements in partnership with the local community.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, with the ability to translate detailed data analysis, knowledge and vision into actionable plans.
  • Financial acumen and experience in managing budgets and securing funding.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence e a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading and developing teams, with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in the third sector.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including excel and digital media channels

  • A base salary between £40 – 50k per annum plus 3% contribution to NEST pension scheme with an employee contribution of 5% required.
  • Working hours: 35 hours per week (part time of not less than 28 hours may be considered) based at The Living Well Centre in Wester Hailes.
