At present, there are an estimated 8,464 citizens living with dementia in Edinburgh. Around 300 of these people are under the age of 65 years old.

Supporting individuals to keep connected to their communities, engage in their interests and hobbies and access peer support, using your own car to help people get around (mileage and expenses are paid).

Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia. You will also have good communication skills and a caring attitude. A willingness to learn and participate in training is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

This position requires applicants to be registered with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). And successful candidates are expected to hold or work towards a professional qualification (minimum of SVQ2).

Full driving license and access to a vehicle during working time is essential for this post.

We are looking for unique individuals who can support people living with dementia in a community groups and day care setting, in such a way that is personalised to the individual’s needs and supports their wellbeing.

Our support workers are our most important people as they provide front line support. Our support workers help individuals to maintain skills and independence by providing support to enable them to be active within their communities, participate in therapeutic activities and enjoy social stimulation.

As part of the Public Affairs and Communications team and working with the Public Affairs and Policy Manager, the post holder will support SAMH public affairs activities across Scotland to achieve positive change in legislation and policy for people with mental health problems and people who use our services.

The postholder will help to ensure SAMH’s policy, research and lobbying work is credible, well evidenced and informed by lived experience, and contribute to increasing SAMH’s profile and reputation as a key influencer of public and political life in Scotland.

You will have the skills to translate information from a range of sources - most importantly, people’s lived experience of mental health – into credible policy positions, to support our efforts to ensure mental health is central to the political agenda in

the run up to the 2026 Scottish parliamentary elections and beyond.

This is a role for someone with the ability to work across a variety of issues as part of a small team, and the skills to communicate confidently with a wide range of people from policy-makers and politicians to colleagues across SAMH. A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to work within Alzheimer Scotland as a Centre Manager in Perth. on a permanent basis.

The Centre Manager will lead and manage a team providing Alzheimer Scotland’s programme of support for people concerned about their brain health or affected by dementia. The Centre Manager will be key to the successful delivery of Alzheimer Scotland’s vision to develop a programme of brain health and dementia support at identified centres across Scotland. Alzheimer Scotland is named after Alois (A-lo-ish) Alzheimer who first identified the brain disease we now recognise as the leading cause of dementia. By building a range of engaging and supportive services in the heart of their community, the Centre Manager will ensure that people have access to:

• Advice - our expert advisors can offer one-to-one help with anything from building cognitive resilience, to managing money matters and legal issues.
• Listening - we offer places to be heard, whatever the question or concern, whenever help is needed.
• Opportunities - to connect, learn and share with others in a similar situation.
• Information - on all stages of the brain health journey, whether someone is worried about their brain health or living and caring well with dementia.

We are looking for a dynamic person who will support and deliver the ALOIS programme, embedding it within their daily practice and work alongside the Centres Lead to bring the programme to life.

Working with individuals and families, Centre Managers are required to have a warm, flexible approach, as well as skills in empathy and relationship building. We are looking for someone who has strong networking skills and experience of collaborating and developing partnerships both internally and externally.

Line management responsibilities for staff within the Centre is an expected part of the role, including development and supporting a network of volunteers.

Applicants will have an understanding of the aims and values of Alzheimer Scotland supported by excellent communication skills; hold a recognised professional qualification and/or have relevant experience with a willingness to learn and participate in training. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.
