The ALLIANCE will be working with an increased focus on empowering disabled children and children living with long term conditions and their families to make Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) work for them, the incorporation of the United Nations Rights of the Child into Scottish law, health and social care integration, the National Care Service and NHS recovery.

We are recruiting a Community Development Worker - an exciting new role within our organisation, linked to the North East Culture Collective initiative. The role will support community engagement and development objectives, with a particular focus on exploring the role of creativity and culture in engaging and empowering communities.

We are looking for an exceptional, passionate individual to join our team as Community Development Worker for an initial fixed term of 12 months, with the potential for a permanent post following the one-year period, dependent on funding.

As our Community Development Worker, in liaison with shmu’s Community Development Manager you will work closely with community and statutory partners, using creativity, community media and culture to engage and empower marginalised communities, giving a voice to those who are usually missed out.

You will have a specific focus on building on and developing relationships within communities of the regeneration areas of Aberdeen City, as well as with communities of interest who have experienced marginalisation and under/mis-representation. You will also support our work in testing out new ways of working between communities and public services (initially within Woodside and the Central locality area) with a view to establishing how a more creative approach can effectively be used to engage and empower communities in an Aberdeen context.

The Big Issue is looking to appoint to a brand-new role supporting our vendors in our Glasgow region. The Support and Outreach Worker will be a leading role in our belief of “A Hand Up Not a Hand Out”, and has been created to improve our service to vendors, helping them to increase their income through selling our magazine and providing casework support.

You will also positively promote The Big Issue in your local area, build partnerships with third-party organisations and identify and promote opportunities all with the aim of moving people out of poverty.

To offer our vendors the best possible support you will have experience and knowledge of working with vulnerable adults in a frontline setting, along with the ability to offer effective sales advice and guidance.

This role will be based at our Big Issue office in Glasgow but you will be mostly be working out and about within the community.
