Role
BACKGROUND:
The Discovery College is an inclusive service based on the principle that connection, community, peer support and learning can be a transformative experience. It is moving into its second year of operation. To date the work has been co-delivered and developed alongside those with lived experience and in collaboration with Spirit Advocacy, Scottish Recovery Network, NHS Highland, Caithness Mental Health Group and Habitus Collective all supporting in the planning, building, and envisioning of this new development for Highland. College courses are open for all to enrol. Our goal is to create an environment for people to come together – be it those who identify as experiencing or having experienced a mental health, or substance use issue, to those who want support in order to move on.
We tailor and target courses and drop-ins for men, Disabled people, LGBTQ+ folks, people who are neuro-divergent, young people and people from ethnic and cultural minorities. Currently the Discovery College operates across multiple hubs in Inverness, Caithness, and Lochaber which we intend to develop further in partnership with a variety of organisations.
The Role:
In the role the post holder will be responsible for a number of key pieces of work:
- Lead the Discovery College in offering the community a one stop shop for their recovery needs including social activity, courses, volunteering opportunities and access to employment.
- Development of the strategy across the organisation to ensures there is a clear programme of activity, training, and employment opportunities that meets the community need.
- Leading Discovery College Hubs across Highland. This will involve the maintenance and continual improvement of the model to include online learning and support as well as face to face, developing the processes and procedures that support this so that there is a coherence across all services as well as a clear set of performance and delivery standards which ensure a positive student and volunteer experience.
- Developing the peer support offer and courses so that students can flourish in
their recovery journey. In doing this you will:
- Execute the strategy for developing and growing the Discovery College and related services including finding ways to promote and communicate about activities so our community is aware of what the offer is for them.
- Ensure that all the Discovery College operations are effectively managed and achieve outcomes which are in line with funder requirements and other agreed governance and KPIs.
- Champion co-development, lived experience, involvement and peer support, working closely with staff, students and stakeholders.
- Work closely with the other senior service delivery colleagues and managers across Centred Scotland as well as relevant external organisations to ensure that services are joined up and readily accessible by clients. About us
Express Group Fife is a well-established mental health charity operating in Fife for almost fifty years. We provide group activities for people over 18 experiencing poor mental health. The aim of the groups is to promote positive mental wellbeing by providing a safe place for sharing experiences and peer support.
There are currently 12 groups across Fife each week, supporting about 150 individuals during the year. Every person’s story is unique, and everyone’s route home is different - it doesn’t matter what the situation is – we’re not here to judge, only to help.
About the role

As well as leading the team, the Service Manager will contribute to the ongoing development and growth of the charity, ensuring all services are delivered to a high standard.

MHAP is one of the longest-running independent advocacy organisations in Scotland, and we are now recruiting a new team member to help expand our individual and collective advocacy services for people experiencing mental health challenges and/or addiction issues.
We provide advocacy support to adults aged 18–65 who live in West Lothian or are receiving treatment here. Our work takes place in a range of settings, including St John’s Hospital, HMP Addiewell, and various community locations, as well as home visits when required.
Individual advocacy involves working alongside people on a one-to-one basis to ensure their voices are heard and respected. We support individuals to understand their rights, make informed decisions, and have meaningful influence over matters that affect their lives.
Collective advocacy involves working with groups of people with lived experience to explore shared concerns, identify common themes, and influence service development, policy, and decision-making at a wider level.

Supporter Stewardship & Community Fundraiser

You will play an important role within our fundraising team, helping to build relationships, and increase income, in a pivotal year for the charity, as we enter our 30th anniversary year! The role will offer significant scope for development, giving you the opportunity to grow your skillset in a supportive, ambitious, and high-performing team.
This is a meaningful and varied role focused on building strong relationships with local communities, individuals, volunteers, and corporations across Scotland. You will work with members of the fundraising team to create and deliver a gold-standard stewardship experience for donors and fundraisers who support Held In Our Hearts, being actively involved across the cycle of a relationship before, during and after a gift or activity.
You will work with fundraising colleagues to develop and lead on creative, impactful, and engaging fundraising activities that empower supporters and ensure sustainable income for our services.
