Role

Are you passionate about improving living standards? Do you have a love of research?

Then you might be just the right person to lead our commissioned research projects at abrdn Financial Fairness Trust.

About you and the role

You’ll play a big part in the Trust’s goal by:

• leading the Trust’s flagship Financial Fairness Tracker survey;

• managing the lifecycle of externally commissioned research projects with the aim of bringing about policy and practice change;

• commissioning, project managing and quality assuring first-class research activities;

• contributing to the future strategic direction of the Trust.

Experienced in managing qualitative and quantitative research projects, you will manage the ‘end to end’ cycle of externally commissioned policy research projects and work closely with the Head of Policy and Research to develop our research agenda. You will be committed to ensuring our research meets the highest ethical standards, have a strong interest in centring research on the experiences of people on low-to-middle incomes and prioritise ensuring a positive experience for participants.

You’ll manage a small caseload of grants/contracts and will develop relationships with our current and prospective funded partners. With communication and public affairs colleagues, you will ensure research output generates an excellent programme of advocacy and media engagement. This means you need to be a confident communicator, orally and written, and have a good way of engaging with people. You should have a head for complex data and information with the ability to synthesize this into clear, actionable insights.

You’ll work alongside a small team of seven who are based between London and Edinburgh and work in a hybrid manner. You should be someone who is highly motivated with a can-do attitude, and the ability to occasionally travel within the UK.

Please review the detailed job description attached for more information.

What you’ll get

It’s crucial that everyone in the team is passionate about our mission, but not at the expense of our lives outside of work. We strive to ensure everyone in the team has a good work-life balance, valuing flexible working and being open to conversations about what you need. You’ll work with a friendly and knowledgeable team of staff and Trustees, and a supportive and experienced manager.

You can choose to work 4 or 5 days from the start of employment, you need to live close enough to commute to Edinburgh or London on occasion, and you’ll receive a salary of £47,972-£50,370 FTE (depending on experience) with a transparent pay scale in place. We know there’s more to life than just work, so you will have 40 days annual leave (pro rata including bank holidays), private medical care, income protection, life assurance and save for your future with 16% unmatched employer contribution to pension (plus an additional 2% match if you contribute). We have family-friendly policies and extra optional benefits to choose from too, such as discounted gym membership and good value travel insurance.
