Role

Intercultural Youth Scotland

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of young Black people and young people of colour in Scotland? Intercultural Youth Scotland (IYS) is looking for committed board members to continue their work as Scotland’s major voice for Black and People of Colour (PoC) children and young people. Established nearly five years ago as a small anti-racist youth work organisation, we have grown to a team of around 30 staff members. We aim to make IYS a community, a support and a champion for all Black and PoC children and young people in Scotland.

We centre anti-racism and the experiences of Black and PoC young people in schools, at work and in personal lives through our Mental Health Service and our Education Program, Restless Natives program, and Youth Work. Our governmental and sectoral advocacy is an extension of these priorities and focuses on upending the entrenched inequalities and structural exclusion that have cut Black and PoC young people out of decision-making that shapes our lives.

Our growing presence in Scotland emanates from this unique position – as both an advocacy organisation and a community organisation. Taking on challenging demands in a world that we need to navigate to safeguard young people and maintain our life changing services.

We are looking for experienced Secretary and an HR Board Members with a passion for antiracist change to join our board in Scotland's leading antiracist youth charity, we want our board to understand the difficulties that an anti-racist organisation faces and reflect our values.

This is a voluntary role and the commitment involves around 4 hours per month, with the exception of emergency meetings. This includes Board meetings at quarterly intervals often held in person or online from 6pm until 8pm.
