Achieve More Scotland is a children and young people’s charity operating across Glasgow and Lanarkshire. Our mission is to improve life chances through play, sport and positive engagement, through positive engagement in partnership with a range of public and third sector providers.
Following a successful funding bid we are working with partners from Education Services and Glasgow Life to deliver a new programme – Levelling the Field – an initiative designed to improve the educational and life opportunities of children and young people through positive engagement with parents and carers in play, activity and educational sessions.
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and driven individual with the passion for supporting people to improve their life chances. The role will involve directly supporting people to engage in school-based informal play, development and learning activities, leading to further support through literacy and numeracy sessions. The objective being for parents to more confidently support children with school work, play and relationships. The postholder will work with colleagues and other agencies to create opportunities for parents/carers to engage in volunteering (in line with Achieve More Scotland, Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Council volunteering strategies) and paid work opportunities, to continue the development of their skills.
The right candidate will be someone who can work flexibly and demonstrate an understanding and total commitment to the objectives of the initiative. You will work closely with a group of public and third sector professionals to develop and deliver the initiative, and with adults and children to participate in activities and create pathways to further opportunities in learning, volunteering, training and/or employment.
To carry out this role, the postholder will have significant working knowledge of key public and third sector partners across Glasgow and Lanarkshire. The postholder will be responsible for developing positive relationships with those being supported, but also with public and third sector partners on the pathway, with whom they will work with closely.
Ensuring a quality service for those who engage is key to the initiative, so the postholder will have a clear workplan, including challenging, but achievable targets.
Relevant experience and values alignment is more important for this role than specific qualifications.
Having a regular presence in the area, to work with partners and the people engaging the service is essential for this role.
A driving license and access to a vehicle would be beneficial to carry out this role.
This role requires membership of the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) scheme. Having a conviction will not necessarily cause a bar to employment.
