About us: Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Bureau is a local, independent charity that provides free, impartial, and confidential advice.
Job Description: As an Advocacy Worker for the Stronger Start project, you will play a critical role in supporting pregnant women and new mothers, helping them address their concerns, understand and execute their action plans, and offer empathetic listening.
A PVG is essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dedicated Advocacy: Provide dedicated advocacy and support services to women participating in the Stronger Start Project, focusing on addressing key areas of concern and assisting them in understanding and implementing their action plans.
- Empathetic listening: Offer empathetic listening to clients, creating a safe and supportive environment for them to share their challenges and goals.
- Collaboration: Facilitate communication and cooperation with the Advice Worker and social workers as needed, ensuring a coordinated approach to client support.
- Client Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, fostering trust and encouraging self-empowerment, helping them to achieve their personal and project-related objectives.
- Assessment of Evolving Needs: Assess the evolving needs of clients, recognising that their circumstances may change between appointments with the Advice Worker. Work closely with the Advice Worker to ensure that clients’ support needs are met effectively.
- Referral Coordination: Ensure the coordination of referrals for ongoing issues by partnering with local agencies, making sure that clients have access to the resources and services they require.
Person specification:
- Previous experience in advocacy, counselling, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of issues related to pregnancy, motherhood, and social issues.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Empathetic, patient, and dedicated to fostering client self-empowerment.
- Ability to work well in a team and independently
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Ability to adapt to evolving clients' needs and effectively coordinate support.
- Knowledge of local resources and services available to pregnant women and new mothers.

Income Maximisation Worker for Families

An experienced adviser is required to improve the financial circumstances of the families supported by Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and Midlothian’s Family Wellbeing Service to improve the outcomes for the children.
The project will work with and receive referrals from Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and the Family Wellbeing Service team members. The worker will link with mental health projects, family support and Penicuik CAB’s specialist debt worker to develop a wraparound service to increase household income and improve the quality of life for the family.
Working closely with other project workers the post holder will provide awareness raising sessions with the Hawthorn Centre staff, Family Wellbeing team members and any other agencies, as appropriate.
Based at the Penicuik CAB, Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and working at any centres deemed appropriate, the worker will provide help and assistance with checking benefit entitlement, completing benefit applications and challenging benefit decisions. The work will also include income maximisation, budgeting advice, utilities and some assistance with debt issues (including housing debt).
A working knowledge and understanding of welfare benefits and good interpersonal skills are essential. The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering the service to meet the needs of the families.

Drumchapel Citizens Advice Bureau provides free, impartial and confidential advice to people across Glasgow. We help local residents resolve issues around welfare benefits, debt, housing, employment and more — empowering individuals and improving quality of life in our community.
As a leading advice provider in the Glasgow area, we’re supported by a dedicated Board of Directors (Trustees) who bring strategic vision, professional insight and community knowledge. We are now seeking new members to join our Board and help shape the future direction of our organisation.
The Role
As a Board Member, you will play an active part in ensuring that Drumchapel CAB remains effective, accountable and sustainable.
You’ll work collectively with fellow Trustees and the Bureau Manager to:
- Provide strategic leadership and sound governance
- Support the management team to deliver high-quality advice services
- Contribute to decision-making that influences the Bureau’s future direction
- Promote our work within the community and wider networks
Board meetings are held every two months, typically lasting around two hours. Trustees may also choose to join sub-committees or short-term working groups.

The Deputy Manager has day to day operational responsibility for the delivery of the bureau’s advice service. The post holder will ensure a quality service is delivered in line with the Scottish National Standards and the Bureau’s Citizens Advice membership and will provide to the Chief Executive Officer all necessary reporting, data and case study information required.
The Deputy Manager is responsible for maintaining a disciplined, professional office working environment and ensures its compliance with the Bureau’s health, safety and other working policies, practices and procedures.
Using AdviserNet and the information systems, provide 2nd tier consultancy support to staff and volunteers on complex cases to include type 3 cases i.e. representation at tribunals. The post holder will also work as part of the Senior Management Team and will deputise for the Chief Executive Officer when required to do so.
The post requires a Basic Disclosure certificate.
