Join the SCVO Board of Trustees
SCVO is looking for a new trustee, elected from our membership, to join our Board. We invite nominations from our membership community so we can then hold a members’ vote to fill those vacancies at our annual general meeting (AGM) in December.
Our trustees play a key role in making sure that SCVO stays true to its mission and values, serving the interests of our members and the wider voluntary sector. Our trustees also make sure that SCVO’s governance is maintained to a high standard.
The SCVO Board is made up of up to 11 trustees. Six trustees are elected from our membership and five trustees, including our convener, are co-opted. Being a trustee is both rewarding and challenging, as we operate in an ever-changing environment with precarious funding – just like most other voluntary organisations. As a member of the SCVO Board you will:
- be responsible for the strategic direction of SCVO.
- uphold SCVO’s values.
- promote the role of the voluntary sector wherever appropriate.
- receive reports from the Chief Executive and other staff on SCVO’s operations and finances, making recommendations as required.
- make sure that all statutory requirements for SCVO are met.
- agree on co-options to the Board of Trustees.
We want a diverse Board of Trustees with a depth and breadth of insight, experience and perspective. We welcome and value people of different backgrounds, thinking and skills and we encourage SCVO members from all backgrounds to apply for these vacancies.
We want our Board of Trustees to be representative of the wonderfully diverse voluntary sector community and of Scottish society. With your input to the Board, we can think creatively and find fresh ways to help us better meet the needs of our members and the voluntary sector.
At SCVO, we are exploring how to be an anti-racist organisation, so this year we are particularly interested in nominations of individuals who have experience and motivation to support us on that journey.

This is a senior role in the Scottish Green Parliamentary Group, managing the group’s central staff team, and working with the MSPs and staff to develop and deliver the Green agenda in Parliament, coordinate and support the delivery of parliamentary campaigns, and to communicate the Green MSPs’ work effectively.
Job purpose
To manage the provision of research, communication and campaign services for the Green Group of MSPs, advise on and coordinate the Group’s parliamentary activity, and line manage the central team of staff.
Duties and responsibilities
● Manage the provision of research, communications and business management services for the Green Group of MSPs
● Line manage the Group’s central team (currently eight members of staff)
● Advise on and coordinate parliamentary activity, including positioning and approach to chamber business
● Work with MSPs in the delivery of the group parliamentary strategy, and advise MSPs on the delivery of their duties
● Ensure group research and communications work is joined up, performance driven, and co-ordinated with individual Green MSP staff teams
● Support the Group in developing and delivering parliamentary and regional campaigns
● Manage the Group budget and commission external services to support the Group’s communications and research programme
● Maintain a strategic oversight of comms output and strategy, in close cooperation with the Communications Manager
● Support the Group Convenor and the MSPs in ensuring group cohesiveness and developing positive ways of working together

About You - Person specification
Essential
● Experience of working in a political, public affairs and/or campaigns environment in a senior role
● Experience of line management
● Understanding of the Scottish political landscape and an interest in politics
● A quick learner with the ability to multitask and work within tight timescales
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Be sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Green Parliamentary Group of MSPs in carrying out their parliamentary duties
Desirable
● A good understanding of the Scottish Parliament and parliamentary process
● Experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver successful campaigns
● Experience of development and delivery of strategic organisational plans
● Strong relationships across policy and media landscape in Scotland

AWS Executive are working in partnership with Space to appoint their Head of Service (Enterprise and Learning) based The Broomhouse Hub in Edinburgh. This is a part time role 21 hours per week, over 3 days.

Job Purpose
- To be a key member of Space Management Team, providing leadership and building positive working relationships across the organisation, and externally.
- To develop and lead on Space Enterprise and Learning strategy, working collaboratively with the Board of Trustees and sub committees to deliver sound advice across all areas of responsibility, and contribute towards strategic decision making.
- To oversee the day to day operations across front line projects, bringing stability and resilience, enabling any growth and improvement that may be required in order to deliver on our strategic objectives, now and in the future.
- To drive income generation, building an understanding across the organisation of the need for successful commercial projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Delivery
- Set ambitious income targets for Enterprise and Learning services, identifying market gaps and trends, delivering sustainable commercial ventures which are both financially and environmentally sustainable.
- Contribute to the regular review of the needs within Space services, planning and delivering the implementation of any new business opportunities across the organisation.
- Working with the CEO and the wider Management Team to deliver the organisation wide strategy for Space.
- Contribute to the continual review and delivery of the organisation's Standard Operating Procedures, Risk Assessments and Risk Management Strategy.
- Ensure efficient reporting systems are in place for accurate data gathering to enable informed decision making.
- Ensure Enterprise and Learning services meet all statutory and regulatory requirements as a charity, company and service provider. Ensure that all data is kept and processed securely and in line with Data Protection Act and GDPR.
- Engage with the communications team to raise awareness and raise the profile of our work by sharing positive, impactful stories.
- Support the effective governance of Space by engaging fully with all relevant governance bodies and processes.
- Ensure Space is appropriately represented across all relevant networks, partnerships and collaborations.
Leadership and people management
- Provide line management to Enterprise and Learning managers in accordance with Space values and people policies, ensuring all direct reports and their teams have the support, information, skills and learning opportunities to be highly effective in their roles.
- Hold regular individual 1:1 meetings with line reports and provide coaching, mentorship and performance management.
- Provide direction and strategic support to line reports on Enterprise and Learning annual planning processes including service work plans and budget control.
- Be a role model to all staff across the organisation and provide leadership support to other members of management.
- Encourage all staff to engage and contribute constructively to matters across the organisation.
- Comply with organisational HR policies and employment law.
- Continually monitor and assess the effectiveness and efficiency of Enterprise and Learning services, identify opportunities for growth and development, writing the business cases for any adjustments and managing the change process.
Finance and Fundraising
- Be financially accountable for all Enterprise and Learning services, ensuring Project Managers have distinct budgets, and understand their responsibilities and targets.
- Work with the fundraising team to research potential new income streams, ensuring funding is in place for all areas of responsibility
- Keep abreast of sector knowledge and standards in order to inform practical funding bid submissions.
- Nurture relationships with existing funders, ensure all agreed conditions are met and data requested is provided.
The Conservation Volunteers connects people and green spaces to deliver lasting outcomes for both.
This role plays a crucial part in supporting TCV's mission to empower individuals and communities to enhance their health, prospects, and outdoor environments. It involves overseeing TCV projects, delivering services in line with local operational plans, and helping achieve TCV's strategic objectives. A key focus of the role is managing two programmes, which aim to enhance the skills, confidence, and employability of people who are furthest from the labour market, including Camphill service users and referrals from Stirling Council. Through engaging activities, the programme will promote well-being, wildlife conservation, and a deeper understanding of nature, while also fostering stronger connections between the local environment and community. Additionally, it will support individuals in their pursuit of further education and employment opportunities.

This initiative, backed by the Stirling Local Employability Partnership (LEP), aims to tackle poverty, promote inclusion and social justice, and create a fair and prosperous Scotland.
Our training programmes prepares people with mild to moderate learning difficulties, and those furthest from the labour market, for the world of work. The programmes offer people opportunities to engage with the richness of our wild environments in a sustainable manner. Through these experiences, we aim to build confidence, curiosity, resilience, problem-solving abilities, and inspire creativity.
As the Training Officer, you will develop and deliver an experiential, hands-on learning programme to increase participants' confidence and practical and social skills, moving them closer to the labour market. You will bridge the gap between school and employment by providing job experience, structure, regular conversations, and understanding of workplace dynamics, including problem-solving and teamwork. You will lead two exciting bio-enhancement projects including the creation of a new pond and orchard, involving the participants in the design, planning, construction, and planting.
Through engaging activities, the programme will promote well-being, wildlife conservation, and a deeper understanding of nature, while also fostering stronger connections between the local environment and the community. Additionally, it will support individuals in their pursuit of further education and employment opportunities.
The ideal candidate will be empathetic and patient, with a genuine interest in helping others succeed. They will be proactive and resourceful, possessing a problem-solving mindset and the ability to take initiative in overcoming challenges. Adaptability is key, as the candidate must be able to work both independently and as part of a team, adjusting to various working environments and conditions. A strong passion for conservation and the environment is essential, alongside the ability to think creatively and innovatively, bringing fresh ideas and a proactive approach to solving complex issues. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills, excelling in building and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, and must be flexible and willing to travel to various project sites as required, adapting to the unique demands of the role.
