Bike for Good is a cycling charity based in Scotland. Founded in 2010, they sell and service refurbished bikes as well as running initiatives with a view to changing lives for the better through cycling. Beneficiaries include bike lovers, curious commuters, those with physical and mental health conditions, young people, refugees and asylum seekers, and those who have never cycled before in their lives. Funding of the organisation comes from the sale of refurbished bikes, and through grants and external funding aimed at tackling environmental, inclusion and health issues.
A recent joint venture with Velogik is taking Bike for Good into an exciting new growth phase to expand their award-winning platform further across the UK.
Reporting directly into the CEO, the Business Manager will have responsibility in the areas of people, operations, finance, project delivery and facilities. You will review and develop systems, and continuously improve processes across the business.
As a key member of the senior management team, you will play a lead role in ensuring the company remains compliant, efficient and profitable. You will provide strategic leadership and drive a strong compelling vision for the group.
The organisation is entering a period of significant change and you will be key in communicating this to staff, stakeholders and partners.
The main responsibilities of this role include:
- Leadership; strategic implementation, including planning, monitoring and evaluation of annual operations plan. Motivate staff and overall performance management
- Strategy; to develop a corporate strategy, annual operational plan and associated budgets. To lead and manage the commercial development of the organisation, sponsorship events and external communications.
- Management and Controls; accountable for the day to day operations. Overall financial health and financial controls across each of the business areas. Ensure that they comply with legal and regulatory requirements. To keep appropriate standards of conduct with staff and volunteers.
- Communication and Reporting; keep good communication up with different departments. Keep accurate records for reporting to the Board and Chair.
- Resources management; manage resources required for delivery such as assets and facilities
- Measurables; key outcomes of the strategic and operational plan.

Common Wheel is a Glasgow-based charity dedicated to supporting people with mental health issues. Our vision is for individuals to live meaningful, satisfying lives and contribute to society. Our mission focuses on improving mental wellbeing, building skills, reducing isolation, and challenging stigma through creative, practical activities like music, art, bike building, and climbing. We have been supporting people manage or recover from mental illness for 25 years. We work in the community, in hospital wards and care homes and at our 2 purpose-built bike workshops in Maryhill and Glasgow.
Role Overview
The Charity Manager will lead the day-to-day operations of Common Wheel, ensuring the effective delivery of programmes, sound financial management, communications as well as contributing to successful fundraising. With an annual income of between £250,000 and £300,000, the charity is at a pivotal stage of growth and impact. The Manager will play a key role in shaping strategy, managing the team, and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Lead and manage a small team of 7-10 staff, a pool of freelance practitioners and a team of volunteers.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing organisational culture.
- Work closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement strategic plans.
Programme Delivery
- Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of all programmes and services, such as build-your-own-bike workshops, climbing, art, music and others.
- Ensure programmes align with the charity’s mission and deliver measurable impact to participants.
- Monitor performance and report on outcomes to funders and trustees.
Fundraising & Income Generation
- Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to sustain and grow income.

Finance & Governance

All Roads Lead to Whithorn SCIO is seeking an experienced, motivated Charity Manager to lead the next stage of growth for our newly refurbished community hall, gym, luxury bunkhouse and small portfolio of social housing. This is a rare opportunity to shape a high-quality rural community hub and asset that creates new opportunities for Whithorn and the wider Machars.
The trustees are determined to appoint the right person and can offer flexibility in how the role is structured for a candidate with the skills and track record we need. We will also consider an interim Charity Manager arrangement for the right person. Hybrid working (part hall-based, part home-based) is possible, and for candidates from further afield we can offer overnight accommodation in our on-site bunkhouse as part of the package.
About the role
The Charity Manager will have overall responsibility for strategic, financial and operational management across:
- Whithorn’s community hall and activity space
- The on-site gym
- The luxury bunkhouse
- A small number of social housing properties
- Wider community projects and development activity
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic leadership – Working with trustees to develop, implement and review the charity’s strategy, turning ideas into deliverable plans and projects.
- Funding and opportunity sourcing – Identifying opportunities, leading high-quality grant applications, developing relationships with funders and partners, and building new income streams linked to the hall, gym, bunkhouse and housing. Proven experience in grant and opportunity sourcing is essential.
- Financial oversight – Working with our external bookkeeper to review reports, approve payments, monitor budgets and cashflow, lead annual budgeting and provide clear financial updates to the Board. Oversight of VAT, HMRC and payroll through external providers.
- Governance and compliance – Ensuring policies and procedures (health & safety, safeguarding, GDPR, insurance, housing compliance) are up to date and followed.
- People and operations – Line-managing the Facilities, Gym & Bunkhouse Coordinator and a casual Community & Hospitality Support Worker, supporting volunteers and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across all sites.
- External relations – Acting as an ambassador for the charity with community members, partners, funders and visitors; promoting the facilities and the Whithorn area as a destination.
About you
You will bring:
- Proven experience in charity, community or social enterprise management.
- A strong track record of successful grant and opportunity sourcing (must-have).
- Confidence with budgets and financial information, and experience working with finance/admin support.
- Good understanding of governance, health & safety, safeguarding and GDPR.
- Experience line-managing staff and/or volunteers.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a hands-on, problem-solving approach.
Experience in housing management, community facilities, tourism, accommodation or rural regeneration would be an advantage but is not essential.

About the Role:
The Diploma in Integrative Counselling is 2-year course, credit rated at SCQF level 10 by the University of the West of Scotland, and validation from COSCA. Murray’s Initiative is one of the founding COSCA members and adheres to the COSCA ethical framework for good practice in counselling, psychotherapy and counselling skills. The course requires lead tutors who are accredited by COSCA to Diploma level or committed to work towards accreditation. Tutors should be experienced Counsellors who are accredited with an appropriate professional body, or working towards accreditation (e.g., COSCA/BACP/UKCP).
The Lead Course Tutor will have responsibility for two Diploma Courses, leading on one weekly class and one weekend class. The Lead Course Tutor will be expected to contribute to a Murray’s Initiative CPD calendar, writing and delivering on content agreed with the Head of Diploma and Training. The Lead Course Tutor will support the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of the Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
The Lead Tutor will report to the Head of Diploma and Training.
