The Eric Liddell Centre are looking for new trustees to join their dedicated board. The Eric Liddell Centre (Scottish Charity Number SC003147) is a local care charity and community hub founded in 1980 in memory of the 1924 Olympic 400m gold medallist, Eric Liddell. After the Olympics Eric Liddell returned to North China where he served as a missionary from 1925 to 1943.Our mission is to be at the heart of the community, enhancing health and well-being and improving people’s lives, and to support some of the most vulnerable people in Scotland’s capital.
Our vision is to Bring Edinburgh’s Communities Together, to respond to isolation, loneliness and society’s disconnection. We work hard to change perceptions of people living with dementia, disabilities and mental health issues and we aim to show living a full life can be achieved with the correct support.
Despite the difficulties faced by the Centre in the past year, the management and its staff have continued to provide alternative services to vulnerable people we support via outreach and online digital support. These services include additional phone support, food programmes for vulnerable people, shopping, prescription collection, a range of online activities, supplemented with health and wellbeing activities to keep the mind body and soul active.
As a Trustee you will be kept up to date with the activities and successes of the charity and will be a vital support to the Centre. You will be involved with important decision making regarding the future of the charity, its policies, values and programmes. All Trustees are members of the Board of Directors. As a member of the Board of Directors you are responsible for the charity's governance and strategy and for ensuring the charity is administered correctly.
The Board generally sits with between 10 and 16 trustees who currently meet virtually on a quarterly basis. Each Board member also sits on one of the charity's two sub committees – the care services committee or the finance committee. The sub committees also meet quarterly.
The Board are looking to expand the diversity of our board and are interested in applicants from all backgrounds and experiences. However, we would benefit specifically from aspiring trustees with the following competencies:
- Fundraising
- Accountancy/ Commercial/business
- Social care/ caring experience
- HR/employment law
Training is given to new trustees.
