Oxgangs Care is a charity committed to the welfare of older people which provides services within a defined catchment area in south west Edinburgh. The project is funded by City of Edinburgh Council with a remit to develop and deliver services for older people and their carers’. It is principally a Centre based service offering older people social interaction in a group situation, focussing on social support which promotes independence and physical and mental wellbeing. It operates 3 days per week (Weds to Fri). Since March 2020 the Centre has been closed in response to Covid-19 restrictions. Currently, staff are providing telephone support to our service users and, Covid restrictions permitting, house visits with support until the Centre can be re-opened. The service is registered with the Care Inspectorate.
We have plans to develop the service by providing an additional day specifically for people living with dementia. This is dependent on funding.
We also provide a volunteer befriending service for older people managed by a Volunteer Coordinator.
