Role

“Too many women with problem drug and alcohol issues are having their young children taken into care and many other women won’t engage with support agencies for fear of their children being removed.

“The new houses will improve outcomes for these women and children; reduce deaths of mothers with problem drug use; avoid family breakdown and increase the likelihood of children being cared for by their parents.” Sally Ann Kelly, Aberlour CEO

About our new Mother and Child Recovery House- Dundee

Funded by the Scottish Government as a national service, Aberlour are excited to be opening our first Mother and Child Recovery House in Dundee to help support and improve outcomes for women and their children (up to the age of 5), during their journey of drug/alcohol recovery. Working with the Health and Social Care Partnership and other partners, we will plan a programme of recovery within a psychologically informed environment and with trauma informed care. Our staff will receive training in trauma and related ACEs. There will be separate programmes for children, and we will also use the Parents under Pressure programme to help provide parents with methods of managing their emotional regulation and supporting their child’s development.

There will be outreach work to engage with women and children prior to coming into the house and extensive outreach support after they leave and return home. Their stay will be expected to last around 6 months and be flexible in response to each women’s needs.

We will be holding virtual open days to introduce this new service and how the posts will work. Check out the advert on our website for more details.
