Role

The role

Founded in 2012, Code Club is one of the largest after-school programmes in the UK and Ireland. Like all in-person activities, Code Clubs have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and the measures that have been put in place to limit its spread. We are working hard to support club leaders to return to safe, in-person club activities, and to increase our impact by supporting more schools to run clubs. In a world where digital skills are even more important and where so many young people have missed out on opportunities to learn them, Code Club has a critical role to play.

Reporting to the Head of Code Club, the Code Club Community Manager (Scotland) will play a key role in the development of Code Club, ensuring that the programme continues to be community-led and meets the needs of teachers and volunteers. You will also be responsible for the development and growth of the Code Club programme in Scotland. The ideal candidate will be a driven and efficient manager with experience of developing educational programmes and effective partnerships, and bring with them an existing network of contacts in Scotland. You will have an in-depth knowledge of the needs of teachers and schools, and experience of supporting and engaging volunteers. You will also have an agile attitude to work and be ready to try new approaches, evaluate, and iterate.

You don’t need to be an expert in computing or digital making, but you do need to bring a passion for our mission and a willingness to learn. Previous involvement with the Code Club would be an advantage.

We strive to make the Foundation a place where talented people who care about our mission can do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you’re the right person for the job, we’ll make it work for you, and you can be confident that you’ll be working with an exceptional team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to ensure visibility and growth of Code Club in Scotland
  • Plan, deliver, and report on a programme of activities that leads to an increased number of impactful and resilient clubs in Scotland, using data to inform decision making
  • Improve, deliver, and evaluate an evidence-informed programme of engagement and support relevant to the community, including informative and inspiring events and resources, that results in a sustained number of clubs in Scotland
  • Develop and improve Code Club strategies to ensure our programmes are community-led and meet the diverse needs of our community, collaborating with the Head of Code Club and the Community Manager (England). Lead strategies as required, for example, educator and volunteer recruitment, consultation and advocacy
  • Contribute to core team tasks including, but not limited to, providing content for Code Club communications (including mailings, blogs, social channels and newsletters); supporting club queries; moderation of our online course on FutureLearn; engaging clubs outside the UK and Ireland
  • Collaborate with colleagues responsible for the Foundation’s other club programme, CoderDojo, sharing learning where appropriate

Experience and personal attributes

We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth and we welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate that they have some, but not all of the experience and personal attributes listed here.

  • Experience of developing a vibrant and sustainable community-led programme, centred on the needs of volunteers
  • Experience of developing, supporting and evaluating educational programmes in school settings, ideally on a national scale in Scotland
  • A track record of building and maintaining successful partnerships, ideally on a national scale
  • Excellent communication skills; you should feel comfortable presenting to different audiences and be able to write clearly
  • Good data and analytical skills, and the ability to use data effectively to improve what we do
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the UK, with overnight stays when necessary

About us

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-based educational charity working to put the power of computing and digital making into the hands of people all over the world. We want more people to be able to harness digital technologies for work, to solve problems that matter to them, and to express themselves creatively.

Established in 2008 and first known for our product — the wildly successful Raspberry Pi computer — the Foundation has developed educational content and programmes that are helping millions of people learn new knowledge and skills. The Foundation supports two networks of free coding clubs for young people: Code Club, which is primarily an after-school programme, and CoderDojo, which is primarily a community-based programme. The programmes are complementary and together form the world’s largest network of free computing clubs, reaching hundreds of thousands of young people each week, supported by an incredible community of tens of thousands of volunteers and educators in over 100 countries.

Across all of our work, we work hard to engage young people who come from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in the field of computing or who experience educational disadvantage. We work all over the world, with teams based in the UK, Ireland, North America, and India, and partnerships with mission-aligned organisations in over 40 countries.

We are at the forefront of the global movement to help young people learn about computing and digital making. You can read more about our mission, work, and impact in our 2020 Annual Review.
