Role

BWell Together is Edinburgh’s North West partnership who will work together to;

  • Improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people
  • Improve the resilience of children and young people – increasing the capacity for children, young people, and their families, to resolve difficulties and problems
  • Increase the capacity of parents/carers in supporting the emotional needs of their children and young people

The partnership consists of 6 agencies; Circle, Stepping Stones North Edinburgh, Granton Youth, Intercultural Youth Scotland, Pilton Children’s Youth Project, Muirhouse Youth Development Project and Wester Hailes Youth Agency.

As part of this partnership Granton Youth is recruiting an experienced counsellor to work with young people who are experiencing emotional difficulties. You will work as part of GY counselling provision and part of a wider mental health and wellbeing collaborative. The postholder will offer young clients guidance and support through talking therapy to help them gain a clearer understanding of themselves and ways of coping with their emotions and stresses in their lives. The job involves working, within a youthwork or school setting, with young people who are experiencing personal issues, to enable them to deal with their problems and to make appropriate changes to their life.

EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS:

The postholder must have three years’ experience of working with young people in a counselling, youthwork, or other similar setting and a minimum of HNC Counselling. The postholder should have a minimum of three years counselling experience. Advanced listening skills, strong verbal and written communication skills are a must, along with a willingness to coordinate/liaise with internal staff and external agencies who may identify or refer potential clients.

This post is funded for three years with a possible extension.
