Role

Visibility Scotland is recruiting a Community Worker in Dumfries and Galloway

Working at local and national levels, Visibility Scotland aims to affect positive change and improve outcomes for visually impaired people of all ages. We want to empower and encourage children and adults to focus on what they can do, not what they cannot.

Visibility Scotland is recruiting a part-time Community Worker (28 hours per week) on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2024 to deliver a community project for people with a sensory impairment in Dumfries and Galloway.

The post-holder will provide support for people to develop skills to maximise their remaining vision and improve their daily living, including eccentric reading techniques and how to use accessible technology.

The post-holder is responsible for informing people about what help is available and linking people to the right support at the right time.

A key element of the role is promoting independent living and developing the confidence of people living with sensory loss in Dumfries & Galloway.

Therefore, we are looking for a confident and understanding individual who will relish the opportunity to lead community skills-based groups, educational and awareness-raising talks and deliver one-to-one home-based tech training.

You will be skilled at delivering empathetic and meaningful responses to a wide range of needs, including social, emotional, additional support needs, mental health and wellbeing, family relationships, poverty, housing issues or social isolation.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a motivated and ambitious organisation. The post holder must have team spirit and be committed to creating a more accessible and equal Scotland.
