Role

UNICEF ensures more of the world’s children are vaccinated, educated, and protected than any other organisation. We have done more to influence laws and policies to help protect children than anyone else. We get things done. And we’re not going to stop until the world is a safe place for all our children.

The UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) has built a strong presence in Scotland over many years through several principal strands of work. In 2015, a dedicated office was established in Edinburgh to support UNICEF UK to deliver on our mandate to uphold ‘the Convention of the Rights of the Child’. In addition, UNICEF UK in Scotland has a well-established Advisory Board in Scotland, and we are now seeking additional board members.

We desire a board that reflects the diversity of our colleagues we attract and the communities we work with. We want each member of the Advisory Board to bring their individual, unique worldview, their life experience, specific skills, knowledge, and networks, to collectively help the Board provide sound advice and counsel to the UNICEF UK team and support the delivery of our strategy.

If you have experience in any of the following areas, we would like to hear from you:

· Working with children and young people and knowledge of the sector in Scotland

· Knowledge or personal experience of international development

· Experience of working within the private sector (for example CSR/tech/finance)

We also welcome applicants who may not have served on a board but have had board exposure at a senior level and who are now open to volunteering at UNICEF UK in Scotland to support the delivery of its strategic objectives.

We would like to hear from candidates from all generations, socio – economic backgrounds, experiences and identities. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from black, Asian, and other minoritised ethnic communities, LGBTQIA+ candidates and disabled candidates because we would like to increase the representation of these groups on our Scotland Advisory Board. We want to do this because we know greater diversity will lead to even greater results for children.

UNICEF UK promotes equity, diversity and inclusion in our workplace. We make employment decisions by matching business needs with skills and experience of candidates, irrespective of age, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

The successful candidate will be required to apply for a criminal records check. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the role and the circumstances of any convictions.
