Part of our Equity, Inclusion & Culture Directorate, the Volunteering team is passionate about the positive impacts of volunteering for both individuals and organisations. Collaborative and supportive, we believe that volunteers are a vital part of our growing movement for change. That’s why we engage more than 2,000 volunteers in our shops, Hubs and local communities. Put simply, it’s an exciting time for volunteering in our communities as we develop new volunteering opportunities to realise the potential of engaging volunteers in our fight against the housing emergency.
About the role
Leading on the development of our volunteering offer, practice and culture within our communities teams, including Community Services, Community Fundraising and Campaigning, in Shelter and Shelter Scotland, is the challenge that awaits you here. You will lead a team of Volunteer Coordinators and will be responsible for shaping and inspiring your team. Day-to-day, we’ll rely on you to develop new ways for people to give their time and deliver our goals of tackling the root causes of homelessness and creating change for individuals experiencing housing issues. You’ll also need to build influential relationships with leadership teams and other key stakeholders, as together you design and plan involvement of volunteers and embed approaches to volunteering. Offering guidance on volunteering, designing new volunteer journeys and helping colleagues to implement them – these are just some aspects of this brand new role.

About you
To succeed, you’ll need experience of applying best practice principles to volunteer engagement (or involvement) including role planning, recruitment, induction, training and development, communication and feedback and risk management. You’ll also need a collaborative approach, good listening and questioning skills and a flair for leading and developing people and identifying practical solutions to problems. Well organised and great at influencing, negotiating and forging productive relationships with a range of stakeholders, you’re confident and creative when using a range of communication methods too. What’s more, you’re as comfortable planning and delivering engaging presentations and designing and developing learning content as you are monitoring and evaluating work or analysing data to ensure innovation and development is driven by insight.

To lead the provision of relationship-based support delivered to young people and families in the community and to promote positive outcomes in line with the values and principles of includem.
Purpose & Context of Role
The postholder will manage their own caseload ensuring support plans are developed with the young person to respond to their individual needs and supporting them to improve outcomes in line with GIRFEC principles and includem’s model of support.
A project worker will demonstrate leadership and ownership over effective service delivery to young people by managing outcomes for young people through use of line managers, colleagues and organisational tools, processes, policies, and procedures.
The key responsibilities of the Project Worker include, but are not limited to:
Service Delivery
- To build relationships and deliver outcome-based support to young people and families, involving all key stakeholders.
- To be available for young people and families at critical times
- To explore values and attitudes with young people in a supportive manner, to affirm and validate their feelings and ideas, and nurture and confirm their learning.
- To ensure a focus on regular and appropriate case progression to help young people and families recognise progress.
- To assess and respond appropriately to situations where young people and/or families may be at risk of harm.
- To support with crisis management and generate solutions for young people and families using the Helpline, with risk enablement being at the heart of professional judgement and decision making.
People
- To understand the different coping mechanisms that young people and their families use to deal with stress and high emotions, and to respond appropriately.
- To demonstrate professional resilience when providing support with sensitive or challenging issues
- To use a strengths-based approach to empower individuals facing adversity to find solutions and make positive changes, ensuring resources are in place to sustain these changes.
- To establish mutually trusting, open and non-judgemental relationship with young people and their families
- To encourage and lead collaborative team work to provide a ‘scaffolding of support’ around each young person and their family.
- To respect and value the contribution of wider stakeholders and the delivery of includem services.

We have a brand new and exciting opportunity to join Cornerstone as our new Payroll Lead on a full-time, permanent basis.
It's a very exciting time to join our team as we embark on sourcing and implementing our brand new HR & Payroll system.
This role can be based in any of our main offices (Aberdeen, Dundee or Glasgow), or part of our hybrid working model. If opting for hybrid, we would need you to live within a reasonable commute of Aberdeen, Dundee or Glasgow. There will be occasions that we'll need you to travel to other Cornerstone branch locations (travel expenses would be reimbursed as set out in Cornerstone’s expense policy with travel reimbursed by HMRC legislation).
The Role
Cornerstone is one of Scotland's largest charities with over 40 years' experience providing great care and support for adults and children with various support needs across Scotland.
Reporting to our Head of Finance, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive payroll and pensions service, ensuring timely payments, legal compliance, and excellent customer service.
You’ll also ensure that all policies, processes and procedures relating to payroll and employment tax are reviewed and maintained regularly in line with legislative or best practice changes.
Working with the payroll team and with the wider finance and HR team, you’ll be a subject matter expert in all aspects of pensions, employment and benefits tax, National Insurance, and other associated taxes.
About You
What we'll need you to bring: -
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline
- Recognised chartered institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP/IPPM equivalent)
- A minimum of 3 years’ post qualification payroll experience
- Attention to detail, delivering accurate, reliable and timely outputs
- The ability to implement quality processes and procedures and communicate these clearly verbally and in writing
- Comfortable learning new systems, developing and implementing new procedures and proposing solutions for problems with systems
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and organise work to tight deadlines
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships and communication with team members
