Role

The Portal Arts

The Portal Arts is an award-winning community arts and media charity based in the Govan area of Glasgow, UK. We deliver creative participation programmes and activity for the advancement of citizenship and community development. We provide a creative recreational facility and resources with the object of improving opportunities and conditions for people and families who reside in areas of multiple deprivations. We aim to promote equality and diversity across all aspects of our work.

Our projects include an outreach programme for families and young people, The Portal Seniors Film Club, the Creative Steps for Positive Mental Health programme, and a media strand which offers media access projects, training, and development opportunities. We have also established an enterprise arm - The Portal Studios.

Govan is part of the Glasgow City Council Thriving Places programme with The Portal Arts being a member of the Arts Heritage and Wellbeing thematic group. The Glasgow Community Planning Partnership (GCPP) is required to carry out locality planning in all neighbourhoods that are deprived compared to the rest of the city. Currently, GCPP is carrying out this work in the 10 neighbourhoods covered by the Thriving Places programme. Locality planning has two main functions: to tackle inequalities and to enable community bodies to participate in decision making at a neighbourhood level.

Role Objectives

The Portal Manager is responsible for organisational management with specific focus on supporting staff, and the smooth operation of day to day financial, HR, administration, and facilities management, thus enabling the organisation to effectively deliver its services and meet its objectives. With a remit for operational over-sight, this role will ensure that staff and Board members are provided with the information, data, facilities, and the assistance they need to achieve agreed outcomes.

The Portal Manager will work with the Creative Director to support organisational development, and will be required to identify fundraising opportunities, and support the team with funding applications for existing and new projects as well as the core running costs of the charity.
