This exciting post offers a unique opportunity to work with Young Carers within school, home & community based settings. The role of the Young Carer Support Worker will be to support young carers in making informed choices around issues that are important to them, through one to one, group work sessions & respite.

You will be offering and completing Young Carers Statements (Assessments), developing support plans, providing advice and information, training, and peer support to help young carers with their caring role.

Young carers are supported through a range of measures to alleviate the caring role and your role will be to work closely with schools, partner agencies and family members to ensure they are able to be a young person first and foremost.

You will be active at providing support and encouragement, helping them to overcome challenges and /or barriers working towards goals to improve their learning, skills and personal development. Offering guidance, rights based information, creating learning opportunities. You will be developing support plans, providing advice and information, training and peer support. Your role will be to work closely with schools, partner agencies and family members.

The post holder should be flexible as the actual times of work will involve working, evenings, school holidays and weekends. The post holder should be flexible as the actual times of

work may change to respond to the demands of the work of the Young Carers Service including overnight stays for respite.

Purpose & Context of Role

The postholder will manage their own caseload ensuring support plans are developed with the young person to respond to their individual needs and supporting them to improve outcomes in line with GIRFEC principles and includem’s model of support.

A project worker will demonstrate leadership and ownership over effective service delivery to young people by managing outcomes for young people through use of line managers, colleagues and organisational tools, processes, policies, and procedures.

The key responsibilities of the Project Worker include, but are not limited to:

Service Delivery

• To build relationships and deliver outcome-based support to young people and families, involving all key stakeholders.
• To be available for young people and families at critical times
• To explore values and attitudes with young people in a supportive manner, to affirm and validate their feelings and ideas, and nurture and confirm their learning.
• To ensure a focus on regular and appropriate case progression to help young people and families recognise progress.
• To assess and respond appropriately to situations where young people and/or families may be at risk of harm.
• To support with crisis management and generate solutions for young people and families using the Helpline, with risk enablement being at the heart of professional judgement and decision making.

People

• To understand the different coping mechanisms that young people and their families use to deal with stress and high emotions, and to respond appropriately.
• To demonstrate professional resilience when providing support with sensitive or challenging issues
• To use a strengths-based approach to empower individuals facing adversity to find solutions and make positive changes, ensuring resources are in place to sustain these changes.
• To establish mutually trusting, open and non-judgemental relationship with young people and their families
• To encourage and lead collaborative team work to provide a ‘scaffolding of support’ around each young person and their family.
• To respect and value the contribution of wider stakeholders and the delivery of includem services.
• Where opportunity allows experience of directing, supporting, and mentoring Assistant Project Workers/Sessional staff.
• Any other duties as designated by your line manager.

We are recruiting for Support Workers to join our East Dunbartonshire Reach Out/Panmure programme based in Glasgow.

The role of support worker for East Dunbartonshire Reach Out/Panmure is to support tenants, in an outreach capacity, in their transition from temporary to permanent accommodation throughout East Dunbartonshire, as well as providing tenancy management support to people within their own flats at 95 Panmure Street, Glasgow.

The role will mainly be working in the community in East Dunbartonshire and you will manage your own diary to reflect the needs of the people that you are supporting. It is expected that you will be based in the office at Panmure Street, 1 day per week. You can also work from home where appropriate, this is in agreement with your line manager, based on the needs of the service.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

EDRO – provide a tenancy support service:

• Manage a case load of people in the community to transition from temporary to permanent accommodation or to maintain their tenancies
• Work in partnership with the Housing Officer at East Dunbartonshire Reach Out providing the service in the time period agreed through a support plan as requested on the referral document
• Close the case with the people we support when the agreed support is complete
• Refer and link to citizens advice and other agencies as required
• Set up housing benefit and support access to welfare funds
• Conduct risk assessments
• Ensure all support plans, reports and any other associated documentation is completed, maintained and filed appropriately

Panmure – provide a tenancy management service:

• Ensure that flats are prepared to the required move in standard to include a full inventory, risk assessment, health and safety checks and agreed level of cleanliness for all new tenants.
• Be present to move new tenants in, explain to them all they need to know for living in the property, open case notes and complete all necessary paperwork
• Ensure maintenance and cleanliness within Panmure flats are managed appropriately via monthly flat checks, and people we support have what they need to manage this
• Report and follow up on any maintenance required
• Be present when tenants vacate the property, complete necessary paperwork and case notes, inventory, cleaning and submit repairs requests
• Liaise with social work as required and collaborate as appropriate with external agencies.
• Attend regular drop-in sessions for tenants providing them with necessary information, signposting them as and responding to their queries as required

What you can expect from us

• The post holder will report to the Senior Support Worker.
• Your normal working hours are an average of 35 per week. These hours are usually worked Monday to Friday, and flexibly between the hours of 9.00am to 7.00pm, with one-hour unpaid break. Variations to these hours must be agreed with your line manager.
• Your usual place of work will be 95 Panmure Street, Glasgow. You are also required to work in the local community, and you will be paid travel expenses between your usual place of work and appointments undertaken in the course of your duties.

OVERVIEW

Since August 2023, the Citadel has received funding from the Strategic Equity Fund to deliver a Wellbeing Project in the Trinity Academy Learning Community (Trinity Academy, Trinity PS, Victoria PS, Wardie PS). The aims of the project are to promote the mental health and wellbeing of targeted pupils, and to improve their school attendance and engagement with learning. This project builds on the Citadel’s relationship with the Trinity Learning Community, which includes school-based youth work at Trinity Academy and family support at Trinity PS and Victoria PS. The postholder will work closely with other members of the Citadel team to co-ordinate support for pupils and their families, and will be a Lead Worker in the Citadel’s Unboxed Club.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Develop, facilitate and evaluate school based group work programmes to support the mental health and wellbeing of pupils in the Trinity Learning Community
• Provide non-clinical 1:1 support for pupils who are experiencing mental health difficulties, such as low mood and anxiety
• Plan, prepare, facilitate and evaluate activities with a focus on promoting mental health and wellbeing for young people aged 12-15, attending the Citadel’s Unboxed Club
• Co-ordinate summer holiday activities for P7 pupils who would benefit from additional support making the transition to Trinity Academy
• Introduce pupils to community based groups and activities at the Citadel and other local agencies, which will support their mental health and wellbeing
• Work closely with school colleagues in the Trinity Learning Community to identify pupils who would benefit from this project and to evaluate the benefits of their involvement
• Liaise with colleagues in Education, Social Work, Health and other agencies to co-ordinate the support of pupils involved in the project
• Maintain up to date, accurate records of work
• Provide regular progress reports to schools
• Any other duties, as required (including occasional weekend and evening work)
