Are you a support practitioner who is looking to make a positive difference to the fulfilment in the daily lives of workers in your community?

You will be joining an organisation that has been established to provide support to seasonal workers in the agricultural community. As an Outreach Support Worker you will proactively and positively engage with the workers providing support with regards to their working environment and every day lives. You will need to bring experience of casework management and first-hand knowledge of seasonal agricultural work.

The Worker Support Centre (WSC) Scotland is establishing a new outreach service to support seasonal workers from countries spanning Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia and Tajikistan who are employed in the agricultural sector across farms in NE Scotland.

What we are looking for in our Outreach Support Caseworker:

  • An ability to think outside the box, creatively establishing links to relevant communities and groups to access the worker population.
  • Experience in providing support and advice to a client group or community either in a volunteering or professional capacity.
  • Fluency in English and any two additional languages including Russian, Bulgarian, Moldovan or Romanian is essential; it would be a significant advantage to have the ability to speak Tajik, Uzbek or Kyrgyz, Macedonian or Ukrainian.
  • Experience in managing a caseload independently.
  • Knowledge of Temporary Migration, Labour and Human Rights.
  • An understanding gained through first-hand experience of agricultural working.
  • An understanding of, and empathy with, the varying levels of need with housing, health related issues, workplace concerns, and how to signpost people to the right sources of advice and information.
  • A positive and empathetic approach that will engender trust and confidence between WSC and the workers with an ability to offer advice and advocacy on their behalf.
  • A solution-oriented individual who sees creative ways around challenges.
  • Comprehensive I.T. skills and be able to use packages such as Office Outlook, Word and Excel, Internet and database systems and ability to maintain thorough records.
  • A valid driving licence.

Main Task and Responsibilities:

  • Organise and advertise regular outreach clinics and cultural activities with workers;
  • Conduct outreach visits and engage with workers to discuss and document their concerns and offer support;
  • Work to build solidarity between workers and to empower workers to seek resolution to workplace concerns;
  • Provide high-quality outreach support around housing, debt and employment rights;
  • Support workers to navigate support and advice from external agencies;
  • Record worker information using advice pro case management software;
  • Contribute to and translate information material on worker rights and entitlements and the activities of the WSC;
  • Communicate the WSC service through online, telephone and face to face engagement with networks and individuals connected with workers;
  • Monitor and respond to email, phone and message enquiries from workers;
  • Liaise with external lawyers on legal advice sessions and make appointments for workers to access such advice, attending such appointments where possible.

A Basic Disclosure check, a clean valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle are essential requirements for applicants to this role.

Pre-employment screening will include the necessary right to work in the UK checks as well as reference checks.

*Location:The role is a remote working role with a hybrid combination of home-working and travel to meet with our service users. The role will operate primarily in North-East Scotland with the main work areas being in and around Fife, Angus, Perth, Dundee, Stirling and Kinross.
