Epilepsy Connections wants everyone with epilepsy to have the support, resilience and respect they need to live life to the full.
Our Epilepsy Fieldworker Heather Davies supports people in Ayrshire and Arran to learn more about their epilepsy and how to manage it, and to live safely and well with what can be a challenging condition. Heather works in a person-centred way to support people to identify their epilepsy information and support needs and to develop their self-management skills.
Heather provides:
• practical information about understanding and managing epilepsy, seizures and treatment; identifying seizure triggers; lifestyle issues; balancing risk and safety.
• help to manage epilepsy at home, school or work.
• support for people to deal with their feelings about living with epilepsy
• help with benefits and housing issues.
• liaison with epilepsy specialist clinics.
• signposting to appropriate resources and services.
Heather also runs information and support groups, where people with epilepsy and their carers can get together to hear from guest speakers and enjoy each others’ company, and a walking group.
To help us reach everyone who needs our support, we’re introducing the role of Community Activities Worker to help Heather organise and run existing support groups, develop new local groups, and help raise awareness of epilepsy in Ayrshire and Arran.
To succeed in this role, you must be friendly and approachable, have great communication skills and empathy, and experience of supporting people. Knowledge of epilepsy would be an advantage but we provide full training.
This is a great opportunity to work in a small, vibrant charity, to develop your skills, knowledge and experience, and to make a real difference to people with epilepsy and their carers.
