basketballscotland are recruiting a Social Impact Officer for their CashBack Communities of Basketball Programme, taking a youth-work approach to positively impact the lives of young people.

The Role

Work alongside an experienced basketball coach to change the lives of a group of 11-16 year olds. The aim is to have a positive impact by building confidence, enhancing physical and mental well-being and improving the learning and employability potential of those previously identified as most at risk of progressing into anti-social behaviour or crime.

Duties

• Work with a group of 11-16 year old pupils. This will include: one to one mentoring with young people; working collaboratively with partners in and outside of the school; supporting young people to obtain accredited and non-accredited qualifications; developing wider community opportunities.
• Utilising your youth work skill set, establish, support and deliver personalised support plans to the young people who may be most at risk of progressing to anti-social behaviour or crime, in order to increase their employability and employment options.
• Support young people to attend basketball sessions within their community, outside of regular school hours.
• Deliver activities to young people (in and out of school) which are centred around mental health and mindfulness to help them contribute positively to their communities.
• Develop and build strong community relationships with external stakeholders i.e.
• sportscotland, schools, Active Schools, SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health), SSF (Scottish Sport Futures) and FARE Scotland.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to lead our community food and growing work at SPYF. Through our Blackhill’s Growing project, we are improving mental and physical health in our community. We bring people together and reduce isolation through creating and maintaining vital local greenspaces. We’re improving the local availability of fresh fruit and veg and providing dignified access to emergency food provision in our community. Above all, we’re supporting local people to improve their lives.

This varied role involves managing our growing spaces including our new community farm, working alongside our committed volunteers, establishing and developing partnerships with local schools, updating and responding to social media posts, carrying out project monitoring and evaluation, managing our Social Enterprise Development Officer and coordinating our community larder and veg barra.

A crucial part of this role will be to work with colleagues across the wider St Paul’s Youth Forum team to maximise the ways we can help fulfil local need by adding value to other projects and activities which we run. This post will entail some evening and weekend working.

Fauna & Flora’s Scotland team is actively working to develop ways to offer further in-depth support to the community groups we work with to address the barriers that they identify and are looking to build our input in the terrestrial sphere, including taking part in conversations around rapidly developing nature finance mechanisms, and increasing our stakeholder network. This is an exciting stage for the team, as we further develop aspirations around land-based community conservation, as well as support the Coastal Communities Network (CCN) on their journey towards independence as a community-governed network.

This internship is a valuable learning opportunity for someone with an interest in community-led conservation in Scotland. You will work across the Scotland team, engaging with colleagues within the wider Eurasia regional programme and relevant cross-cutting teams, as well as locally-based partners and contacts. You will gain knowledge of the current conservation context in Scotland, increase your understanding of project development within small teams, build your networks and support the planning and running of workshops and events. More specifically, you will play a key supporting role in the development of our work in Scotland through: desk-based research on community-led conservation, updating stakeholder mapping, network research, supporting key meetings, and a review of Scotland’s national and international nature obligations. There is also the opportunity to support the organisation and delivery of the CCN annual gathering in October 2024 and planned community workshops later in the year, as well as to engage in national policy consultations.

Note that this internship has been designed to create a professional development opportunity for people who are new to the conservation sector. Therefore, applicants should have less than two years paid or unpaid experience in the conservation sector (not including academic work).

Community InfoSource (CIS) seeks an ESOL and Digital Coordinator to coordinate, develop and deliver our programme of ESOL and digital inclusion classes, both in-person and online. Working as part of the Wellbeing Project, the ESOL and Digital Coordinator will work closely with the Wellbeing Coordinator to deliver classes appropriate to clients’ needs. The candidate must be able to work well with others in a small team with a flexible schedule, working collaboratively with other projects in our small charity as well as with external organisations.

The person needs to be organised, able to work well with others in a small team, and committed to a human rights ethos and CIS’s values.
