Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity, supporting and celebrating deaf people. We were established in 1835 and work with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England. About you

You will be a qualified accountant with post qualifying experience ideally in the charitable or third sector and the ability to produce statutory charitable accounts is desirable.

You will work with the CEO on all matters relating to strategic financial management and lead on all aspects relating to financial systems, processes and reporting on financial performance. This includes all aspects of charity finance compliance, business income generation. You will lead a small team and preferably have experience of working with non-executive Boards.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics office 365 Business Central would be desirable.

The role

To maintain the daily running of the charity’s finance function and to create a finance strategy to develop and manage sound accounting, administrative practices within designated timeframes in order to contribute to the efficient running of Deaf Action.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • To manage the day-to-day finances of Deaf Action, in particular project accounting and dealing with restricted funds.
  • To prepare the payroll for the charity.
  • To develop and implement budgeting processes, forecasting and monitoring of expenditure, payroll systems, and other appropriate financial strategies.
  • To lead on the development and management of financial processes and procedures
  • To prepare regular financial information for Deaf Action’s Senior Management team and Board of Directors.
  • To liaise with and advise Senior Managers in the preparation of costed tenders for services and funding applications
  • To generate reports and statistics required by management and funding authorities within designated timeframes
  • To liaise with the CEO/Treasurer to ensure effective deployment of Deaf Action’s resources
  • To prepare accounts for audit purposes
  • To communicate effectively with all departments
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships across all staff, service users and stakeholder in order to identify and drive opportunities for process improvement activities
  • To ensure compliance with requirements of all Regulatory Bodies, for example. HMRC, Pension Authorities and OSCR
  • To take responsibility for effective departmental budget management and contribute to strategic planning for the overall work and management of Deaf Action.
  • To take responsibility for personal development and keep up to date with relevant statutory and financial legislation
