Role

At Befriend a Child we believe every child deserves a happy childhood and the best chance in life to succeed and thrive. We support children and young people growing up in difficult life circumstances across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. We help them develop into confident young adults and achieve their full potential. We do this by matching them with trained volunteers who deliver 1:1 befriending and mentoring programmes, which over time have a transformational effect.

We are looking to recruit a personable, professional, proactive, and caring individual to join us as a Senior intandem Co-ordinator. The role will lead on our intandem mentoring project, making a positive difference to care experienced children and young people, who are looked after by the local authority or in kinship care. As part of the role you will line manage a part-time intandem Co-ordinator.

A key aspect of the role will be recruiting, matching and supporting volunteer mentors who will be delivering the mentoring. You will be the first point of contact for volunteers, and young people, offering a high level of support and seeking to make a positive impact to those involved in the project.

Funded by Inspiring Scotland, the national intandem mentoring programme aims to support care experienced children and young people aged 8-14 years who are living at home looked after by the local authority or in kinship care. The disruption children face when they are involved in the care system can be challenging and potentially damaging, intandem has been set up to help young people overcome these challenges

If you are inspired by our cause, can demonstrate success achieved in a similar role, are organised, with excellent communications skills and have a passion for working with volunteers and children, we would love to hear from you. This is an exciting time to join the charity as we grow and develop our programmes for local children, young people and families.

This is a full-time post, working 37.5 hours a week. Our working day is generally 9.00am – 4.30pm with occasional evening and weekend work in which we operate flexitime and TOIL. This role is based in our office at 9 Bon Accord Square Aberdeen with some hybrid working if desired. A full clean driving licence and access to a car is essential due to the nature of the role.
