Role

AMIS (Abused Men In Scotland) is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) supporting men (including anyone identifying as a man) who experience domestic, or partner, abuse and raising awareness of the male experience and the need for greater recognition and support for men (and their children) affected by it. AMIS is Scotland’s only national helpline service specifically for men in this situation.

Since 2010 AMIS has offered confidential support, information and signposting to men experiencing domestic abuse, regardless of ethnic origin, dis/ability, age, sexual orientation or any other attribute and has advocated for male victims.

We are launching a new ‘Local Hero’ project whereby outreach volunteers in up to fifteen local authorities will be recruited, trained and supported by this post holder working closely with our services manager. Collaboration on delivery of internal and external training as well as other awareness raising work will also form part of this role.

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme will be required for the successful candidate.

This post will be funded by the Tudor Trust for a period of three years initially, with the term to be extended subject to further funding being secured.

Main Purpose of job:

To recruit, train, support and co-ordinate Local Hero volunteers; develop and maintain a geographic database of public, private and third sector services and contacts relevant to the work of AMIS; collaborate closely with the services manager in the development and delivery of internal and external training; and assist the services manager in advocating for domestic abuse experienced men in matters related to domestic abuse in law, policy and practice.

Salary

  • Year 1: £28,000
  • Year 2: £28,840
  • Year 3: £29,705

Scotland Based - hybrid blend of office (Mayfield, Dalkeith) and homeworking package. Some travel will be required.
