Hyndland After School Club, affectionately known as “The Afty”, is an out of school childcare service based in the west end of Glasgow. The club was set up in August 1992 by a voluntary committee of parents and became a ‘not for profit’ company limited by guarantee and a registered charity in November 2001. Located in grounds bordering Hyndland Primary School, our club hosts many services that include an after-school club, breakfast club and holiday club, and after school clubs in both Notre Dame and Thornwood Primary Schools. We offer a safe and stimulating environment for children to enjoy a range of activities including arts & crafts, baking, music, drama, sports, with toys and games, drawing and painting, outdoor play and much more. The Afty is delighted to be recruiting for the post of General Manager. Ideally, we are looking for an individual with demonstrable skills and experience, that involves both the development and delivery of innovative and exciting play experiences for children and the effective management and leadership of a knowledgeable and experienced team. The General Manager role is diverse and varied and requires excellent administrative, financial and management skills. Professional standards are upheld and maintained in accordance with the requirements of The Board and external agencies such as The Care Inspectorate, The Scottish Social Services Council, Glasgow City Council, our Parent Council and parents of children/prospective children.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: -
• Overall responsibility for the registration of children and upkeep of all related records e.g. registration forms, waiting lists, daily registration forms, care/personal plans, medication forms and the management of the data base;
• Overall responsibility of all relevant policies and procedures including all necessary Safeguarding processes and procedures;
• Ensuring compliance with all legislative guidance and GIRFEC, UNCRC, Health & Safety, Equal opportunities etc are enshrined in all policies;
• Overall responsibility for ensuring finance records are accurate and up to date and policies and procedures are in place;
• All aspects of staff management including registration of staff, administration and training;
• Attendance at monthly meetings with the Assistant Managers and Club Managers to review operations, finance, risks and issues, projects and the preparation of the General Manager’s report to the Board;
• To Plan and participate in fundraising events, seek funding from outside agencies, complete application forms and maintain records of funds received;
• Responsibility for providing a safe environment for both staff and children, and for informing The Management Board, where appropriate, of factors which may adversely affect health and safety within the Club; and to
• Ensuring that systems are in place and monitored and evaluated on a regular basis to ensure continued safety and security of all children.
Role Requirements: -
• As a minimum, you MUST hold a Childcare qualification at practice level. A management qualification is desirable, or a commitment to obtain a management qualification, within the first year of service. Equivalent qualifications along with relevant experience would also be considered.
• Previous experience of managing and leading a team;
• Excellent finance and administrative skills;
• Evidence of practical experience of working alongside children, young people and/or families;
• An outgoing, positive, and confident personality and the ability to build relationships with our various stakeholders: children, parents/carers, school, staff, and regulatory bodies;
• Your proactive, enthusiastic, and motivated attitude will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the three clubs;
• To succeed in this role, you must have excellent time management, be well organised, and have good written and verbal communication skills allowing you to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and internal teams to deliver results.
The successful candidate will be required to meet the criteria for registration with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme, Scottish Social Services Council at Manager level and will be reference checked.
