About the Role of Peer Support Worker
This work is about helping people to live well and achieve the things in life that really matter to them. We have roles available in a new mental health service, commissioned by Glasgow City Council supporting people living with moderate to severe and enduring mental health issues to live fulfilled lives and achieve goals.
Based in Dowanhill area of Partick, this new exciting service will use recovery focussed interventions, supporting people to develop skills and positive support networks towards living an independent life in the community.
Peer Support Workers at St Peter’s Mental Health Supported Living will use their own lived experience of mental health issues to support service users in a recovery focussed way. Using formalised peer support models the Peer Support Worker will enhance the support provided to the individual by developing mutually empowering relationships. There is an expectation that peer support workers will facilitate group work that will aid individuals in their recovery journey.
What we are looking for
Respect and dignity for the people who use our services is at the heart of everything we do. You don’t need any specific qualifications, but what you do need is the right attitude and values. We will ask you to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership scheme, and register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). We’re looking for people with great people skills who are honest, reliable and resilient in challenging situations.
Everyone we support is different and we use individually tailored plans to help them to identify where their strengths lie and support them in the areas where they may need it. In this role your attitude and personality matter as much as your skills and experiences. We are looking for initiative, compassion, energy and determination and the ability to motivate and inspire people who use our services to develop their skills and self-confidence and realise their aspirations. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity and you will go home each day knowing you made a difference.
Supporting the people who use our services means there are a variety of shift patterns including evenings, weekends, sleepovers and on-calls. You will be allocated to a service base but may be required to work flexibly across local services.

Community Link Workers work from within GP Practises. Through 1:1 support appointments and small group work we help people change their lives for the better.
We are recruiting for 1 full time Community Link Workers to work in Paisley. Working hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday (9am - 5pm) and Thursday (12pm - 8pm)
Please be advised that the role is a fixed term contract until June 2024.
Community Link Workers are uniquely placed third sector workers operating within GP Practises. We work with the entire patient population aged 16 and above.
Whilst we are not medical staff, we bring a unique skill set and a third sector perspective that complements the work of the multidisciplinary team in the GP Practice. We support people to tackle their health and wellbeing problems and connect with community support services.
Common reasons for referral to our service include low level mental health difficulties, problems with housing, poverty, relationships and bereavement.
Our Community Link Workers are based in GP Practises in areas of high deprivation, where people are experiencing health inequalities.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- SVQ level 3 Social Services and Healthcare or SVQ level 3 Community Development
- Meets the requirements for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council
- Knowledge and experience of working with people who are experiencing complex social and emotional circumstances including mental health difficulties
- Ability to work in a structured service, to follow a service model and collect information about the impact of the service
- Extensive effective interpersonal skills in working with people on a 1:1 basis, including the ability to learn and use recognised therapeutic techniques Knowledge about the impact of poverty and health inequalities on health and wellbeing
- Ability to establish professional relationships with multiple stakeholders; i.e. GP Practice teams, Social Work, Mental Health Services and Money Advice Services
- Evidence of creating and maintaining community connections and networking abilities
- Experience of working independently, whilst upholding the policy and procedures of the organisation
- Ability to organise own workload and appointment system and use time efficiently to deliver a targeted number of appointments

We are looking for an Outreach Worker to join our service in Ross-shire, Highland.
You will work mainly on a one to one basis in the community, and/or in people’s homes being responsible for one to one support, including carrying a case load and developing and reviewing personal support plans. You will work autonomously being able to judge when you refer to your Manager, taking responsibility for your own work.
You will also have a lead role in developing the Service, through collaboration with the people who use the service, your colleagues across the Outreach Team and colleagues in stakeholder organisations. Working alongside our Highland team, the role offers you an opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of people affected by mental health issues.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in the mental health field or in another area of support work, an SVQ3 (or equivalent) qualification in Health and Social Care.
