Role

About us

The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest funder of community activity in the UK – we support people and communities to prosper and thrive.

National Lottery players raise an incredible £30 million a week for good causes. This money funds projects and activities that transform communities, protect our heritage and enrich lives through arts, sports and culture. We are proud to be one of 12 distributors responsible for awarding this funding across the UK.

Thanks to National Lottery players, last year we were able to award over half a billion pounds of life-changing funding to UK communities, supporting thousands of projects making a real difference to people’s lives.

Over eight in ten of our grants were for under £10,000 going to grassroots groups and charities across the UK doing great things to support their communities, during a particularly tough time.

We also distribute non-National Lottery funds, working closely with Government on funding for important issues, such as tackling loneliness, multiple and complex needs, mental health and distributing Dormant Accounts money.

Over the last five years we’ve awarded a total of £3.4 billion, of which £2.7 billion is National Lottery money.

We fund things that matter – whether helping communities respond positively to national, regional or local priorities, or helping the UK achieve its big social ambitions. Our grants range from £500 up to multi-million-pound programmes – supporting people and projects to do extraordinary things and bring great ideas for their community to life.

About the role

Here in Scotland, we also deliver the Scottish Land Fund programme on behalf of the Scottish Government.

The Scottish Land Fund supports rural and urban communities to become more resilient and sustainable through the ownership and management of land and buildings.

Funded by the Scottish Government and delivered in partnership by The National Lottery Community Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, it offered grants of up to £1 million to help communities take ownership of the land and buildings that matter to them, as well as practical support to develop their aspirations into viable projects.

As part of the Scottish Land Fund team, you will ensure our funding responds to the needs of the community ownership sector and challenge yourself and colleagues to ensure that we fund strong projects that make a long-term difference to local communities. By working closely with people and communities you will understand what community needs are and be able to translate this into your assessment and grant management work.

You will build relationships with people and organisations including applicants, colleagues within the Fund and in partner organisations delivering the Scottish Land Fund.

You will be responsible for understanding how customers funding ideas align with our funding priorities and making good judgements about when to recommend a proposal for funding.

You will combine local knowledge of communities and services, understanding of best practice and the experience of grant-holders to make informed recommendations about who and what we fund through concise report writing.

You will actively seek out and analyse available information, using it to inform your judgement and complete your work effectively to set deadlines.
