Role
VOCAL - Voice of Carers across Lothian – is a Scottish charity run by carers for carers since 1994. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced support work practitioner to join our busy and expanding Edinburgh team providing duty and casework support to carers. Within this role there will be a focus on providing duty cover, acting as the first point of contact for carers. In addition, it is anticipated the practitioner will undertake short term casework providing information, advice and signposting to other supports.
The post holder will support carers across Edinburgh to plan and access person-centred support for their caring situation, their health and wellbeing and their personal development.
Applicants will have a sound knowledge of health and social care issues, ideally including key legislation and policy affecting carers. Applicants will also be able to evidence: excellent people and communication skills; experience of casework and person-centred support work; and digital competence.
It will be advantageous for applicants to be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the diverse range of caring situations, the impact of caring on peoples’ lives and barriers carers face at different points of the caring journey. Although some direct experience of working with carers is preferred, it is not a prerequisite for this role.

Lead Parent/Carer & Autism Family Support Worker

Glasgow East End Community Carers are looking for an experienced person to lead on our work with parent/carers and our Autism Family Support programme.
We have a large group of parent/carers who have children with autism, and they come looking for advice, information and support as they deal with the challenges of supporting their child/ren with autism.
We provide a programme of supports which include:
Play Sense – a weekly pre-school age play group
Family Activity Programme – a range of events, outings, day-trips, sports etc for children with autism and their parents.
Autism Training – a programme of training sessions which covers a wide range of topics relating to autism, ADHD etc.
Autism Helpline – a schedule of 30 min conversations with an Autism specialist for personalised advice and support.
Autism Peer Support group – a monthly group to allow parent/carers to meet and chat and support each other.
Autism Family WhatsApp group/PlaySense WhatsApp group – where parent/carers can encourage and support each other and keep in touch with the centre.
This role would be to lead on the delivery of this programme with the support of two support workers and our child-care workers.
The Lead role is responsible to the Carers Hub Manager, and the role is based at our Carers Hub at 26 Penston Road, Glasgow G33 4AG.

Young Carers Development Worker (Substance Use Team)

Edinburgh Young Carers is seeking a suitably experienced and qualified applicant to join the service in developing and providing high quality support to young carers in Edinburgh between the ages of 5 and 25 years, who care for someone with problematic substance use at home.
The postholder will work alongside colleagues to raise awareness of young carers and their support needs, identify hidden young carers, carry out Young Carers Statements/Adult Carer Support Plans and provide support to ensure that young carers’ identified personal outcomes are being met, in accordance with the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016.
The candidate will need to be suitably qualified and have proven experience of working with children and young people affected by parental substance use difficulties, with at least three years proven experience in a role including individual and group work. The candidate will also have a sound understanding of Child Protection issues and relevant legislation.
