Role

Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity.

We work in over 60 communities in Scotland with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

Considering a career in adult social care?

This work is about helping people to live well and achieve the things in life that really matter to them. We currently have job opportunities in a range of our established Glasgow City wide Care Homes and Care at Home services providing individual support to adults with a variety of complex needs who need support with mental health and addiction issues including ARBD (Alcohol Related Brain Damage).

Our services are situated across the city and are designed to cater to the needs of the individual while supporting them to live as independently as possible. They include a range of residential, core and cluster models.

Everyone we support is different and we use individually tailored plans to help them to identify where their strengths lie and support them in the areas where they may need it. In this role your attitude and personality matter as much as your skills and experiences. We are looking for initiative, compassion, energy and determination and the ability to motivate and inspire people who use our services to develop their skills and self-confidence and realise their aspirations. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity and you will go home each day knowing you made a difference.

What we are looking for

Respect and dignity for the people who use our services is at the heart of everything we do. You don’t need any specific qualifications, but what you do need is the right attitude and values. We will ask you to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership scheme, and register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). We’re looking for people with great people skills who are honest, reliable and resilient in challenging situations.

Supporting the people who use our services means there are a variety of shift patterns including evenings, weekends, sleepovers and on-calls. You will be allocated to a service base but may work in services across Glasgow.

What we will provide for you

You will work in a supportive environment with a small friendly team and will be provided with a full induction and training opportunities. You will be given the chance to develop your knowledge and skills, as well as develop professionally. Some of our benefits include;

  • Fully funded SVQ qualification to meet the conditions of your SSSC registration
  • Reimbursement of PVG & SSSC fees and registration costs.
  • Funded continuous learning and development opportunities, access to over 100 courses online in addition to classroom and virtual training sessions
  • 30 days annual leave rising to 33 after 5 years’ service
  • 4 public holidays
  • 2 paid wellbeing days off per year to use on what matters to you.
  • Team wellbeing budgets
  • Workplace pension scheme
  • Life Assurance policy
  • Employee Assistance Programme
