Role
North East Edinburgh Counselling Services (NEECS) has been providing counselling – either for free or on a donation basis in North East Edinburgh since 1995. Service users are referred by their GP and can receive up to 12 counselling sessions to support the mental health issues they are experiencing.

We are currently looking for sessional counsellors to come and join NEECS to provide counselling to our clients on a one to one basis either via telephone, Zoom or face to face.
Counsellors and supervisors are accountable to the manager, who reports back to the Board of Trustees.
- This particular vacancy requires the counsellor to be able to offer one-to-one counselling, online/telephone and face-to-face.
- To undertake initial client sessions and make appropriate mutual assessment as to the suitability of counselling/NEECS.
- To regularly attend the supervision provided by NEECS, and participate in practice reviews. The counsellor must attend a fortnightly Wednesday group from 4.30pm.
- To regularly record information required for monitoring & evaluation, and to liaise with the Service Co-ordinator on day to day matters.
- There are approximately 6 team meetings annually, which counsellors are expected to attend.
- A small amount of in-house training/CPD is provided, which counsellors are expected to attend.
- NEECS is a member of BACP and COSCA, and all counsellors must work to
- NEECS Code of Practice, which incorporates the Ethical Frameworks of
- these professional bodies.
- All counsellors new to NEECS work an initial 3 month “probationary period”, which allows for mutual assessment, and during which they attend individual monthly supervision in addition to their group supervision.
- Payment of £25 per hour for counselling sessions is made, according to the Code of Practice.
- NEECS insurance includes practice insurance for counsellors.
Essential requirements:
- Counselling training completed to a minimum of Diploma Level of a course involving face to face teaching/learning, and a supervised practice element.
- A minimum of 2 years post qualifying counselling practice, comprising of no less than 250 hours.
- Experience in undertaking initial client sessions and assessing the suitability of counselling.
- Experience of working in the short and longer term with clients.
- Knowledge of mental health issues.
- Ability to fulfil the team time commitment required for counselling, supervision, team meetings and training.
Desirable requirements:
- Familiarity with group supervision (NEECS counsellors and supervisors work within a range of orientations).
- An understanding of the work of counselling services in the voluntary sector.

Peer Support Worker – Rapid Response

We have an exciting opportunity for someone with lived or living experience in problematic drug and/or alcohol use and mental health difficulties to join our Midlothian Community Mental Health and Wellbeing team. This role is funded by CORRA Improvement Fund.
We are recruiting Peer Support Worker to support the delivery of a Rapid Response Service in partnership with the Midlothian Substance Use Team. You will have lived experience in problematic drug and/or alcohol use and experience of delivering one to one support for people recovering from substance use and mental health difficulties.
Successful applicants will hold drop-ins and provide short-term, outcome focused one to one support to people who have overdosed or are at the high risk of it. The role will also require regular outreach work in community and co-facilitating SMART groups. You will work in a person centered and strength-based way appropriately using your lived experience to support others.
The successful applicant will work as part of the Recovery & Justice Support Team and the wider Midlothian Health in Mind Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Services team, and support the promotion of all Health in Mind services.
Development Worker - Midlothian Access Point & Guided Self-Help

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Midlothian Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Team as a Development Worker.
Midlothian Access Point is dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of individuals aged 18 to 65 who are registered with a GP in Midlothian. We provide a range of services including information, advice, referrals, and support to help our clients access the resources they need.
Within this role, you will be responsible for delivering individual assessments for the Midlothian Access Point. You will be required to deliver a set amount of individual assessments each week either in person, telephone or online.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for facilitating, developing, and delivering Guided Self Help sessions. Guided Self-Help is a one-to-one support service that guides people to access self-help materials. Sessions are delivered in person, online or over the phone. The service is based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Counselling (IPC) and is for anyone aged 18 and over experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression, stress or sleep problems.
They will work collaboratively with communities to provide tailored support, connect individuals to appropriate resources, and maintain a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to meet the needs of vulnerable groups.
