Role

Are you passionate about working with a diverse range of people across the world? Do you have awareness of international affairs and the ability to lead effectively in a political environment? Are you an experienced leader with a track record of leading teams to deliver visits and meetings often involving high-profile individuals and delegates?

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Scottish Parliament as Head of International Relations, working with other parliaments from across the world, international organisations, and consulates, to enhance the profile of the Scottish Parliament, exchange knowledge and develop relationships.

You’ll provide leadership and management for all aspects of the work of IRO, discussing with and reporting to the Presiding Officer and the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. Working closely with the Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to the Presiding Officer, you’ll ensure the effective delivery of support and advice to the Presiding Officers to develop and fulfil the International Strategy.

You’ll plan, develop and oversee support for visits to the Scottish Parliament by other legislatures, heads of government, Ambassadors and international delegations who want to meet MSPs, discuss, and learn from the Parliament on a range of issues of mutual interest. You’ll have ownership of such visits, liaising with key offices and individuals. You’ll develop relationships with parliaments and inter-parliamentary bodies across the world, ensuring that the Scottish Parliament is fully connected with, and is enabled to influence and learn from, key partners.

You’ll be an experienced leader and manager, with the confidence and people skills to identify, initiate and proactively build collaborative relationships with other parliaments and organisations. You’ll have excellent organisational skills in planning and managing the wide range of duties, and be adaptable in order to react quickly to changing situations. You’ll have experience of influencing and persuading decision-makers, with the ability to understand political situations and provide advice on often sensitive and developing situations.

If you’re looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to contribute to the Parliament’s vision, we’d love to hear from you.
