Role

Are you a collaborative, driven and influential individual with strong and effective management experience? If so, Shelter has an exciting opportunity for a Central Support Manager to join us, where you will provide effective leadership to Shelter Scotland’s Business Support Team.

About Shelter Scotland

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet over a million people in Scotland struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter Scotland we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter Scotland and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the role

Our successful candidate will lead the Shelter Scotland’s Business Support Team within the Scotland Directorate, Operations Department to enable the delivery of Shelter Scotland’s strategic plan, prioritising Health and Safety, site management, administrative support and financial processing. Working alongside colleagues in the Operations Department, you will also manage Directorate support, which enables the effective functioning of Shelter Scotland, including project and contract management support in line with strategic priorities, as well as ensuring the appropriate strategic and business planning tools and techniques are applied and co-ordinated across the Directorate.

We will count on you to research, develop and cost proposals in line with Shelter Scotland’s strategic plan and lead the end to end Bid Approval Process for Shelter Scotland, while collaborating to embed a culture of Continuous Improvement, Development and Innovation and overseeing the design and development of an evaluation process linked to the Directorate Outcomes Framework are also vital elements of this pivotal role.

About you

To make this exciting opportunity yours, you'll need management experience, ideally in an operational management role or in a business support and/or business development environment, and an understanding of procurement and commissioning processes. You will also have demonstrable relationship management expertise and confidence in dealing with decision makers, plus experience of managing projects, including the ability to demonstrate the application of project management tools and methods. Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential but, above all, you must have a flexible, professional and proactive approach to your work.

Benefits

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
