Role

Space and The Broomhouse Hub is a community anchor organisation supporting people and their families in South Edinburgh, with some of our services stretching city wide. Our mission is:

‘To nurture, support & inspire, so that lives are fuller, potential is fulfilled & community connections flourish.’

Space deliver 17 projects, with over 50 staff and 250 volunteers. We deliver diverse services supporting young people, families, older people and carers amongst others, engaging with local people more than 34,000 times last year.

As part of our developing services we are recruiting a Service Coordinator to work in our Beacon Club service in Tron Kirk Gilmerton, supporting older people affected by cognitive impairment and mild dementia.

The Beacon Club is an enriching and stimulating day care service with dedicated staff and volunteers. We believe that people with dementia are entitled to respect and dignity and we are passionate about improving the quality of life for our members and their carers, in our local communities.

The Role

The Beacon Club Service Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • The day to day operational running of the Beacon Club, supporting older people affected by mild dementia and cognitive impairment, ensuring that the interests of members and their carers are at the forefront of all activities
  • Promoting quality of life and the wellbeing of Beacon Club members, ensuring their physical, emotional and social needs are met
  • Assisting the Services Manager to carry out home visits to conduct individual assessments, risk assessments and personal care plans with members and their carers.
  • Recruit and train volunteers, providing regular guidance and support & supervision
  • Maintain accurate records including referrals, members’ personal plans and summary of daily activities.
  • Contribute to the continued development of Space Adult Community Services and promote these services to individuals and organisations across South Edinburgh
