A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to work within Alzheimer Scotland as an Outdoor Community Activities Organiser based at Badaguish Outdoor Centre within the Cairngorm National Park.
About the Project
Alzheimer Scotland is paving the way by developing Scotland’s first Outdoor Resource Centre. Specifically designed to support people living with dementia, their carers and families, this exciting new facility, based at Badaguish Outdoor Centre, will enable them to enjoy and explore the outdoor environment. With start-up funding secured through the Heritage Lottery Fund, and in partnership with Cairngorm National Park Authority, we will be offering a programme of outdoor based therapeutic activities. The project includes a team who will run the therapeutic programme, centred in, and inspired by, the natural environment. We will carry out evaluation to gather tangible evidence on the benefits of outdoor therapy. We will occupy a space on the site of Badaguish, including refurbishment and upgrade to make the wooden cabin style building dementia friendly.
The project plan will involve a John Muir Award specifically developed for people with dementia. The creation of this will allow people to achieve and learn new skills when they are with us, incorporating environmental appreciation and learning. We are part of the NHS Green Health Prescribing initiative, and our vision is that we will work towards a clear referral process whereby people with dementia can benefit not only from our services but from the wider range of opportunities within the initiative.
With the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and national lottery players, this post is part of a team that the Cairngorms National Park Authority is recruiting to lead innovative, collaborative, and transformative change as we tackle the climate emergency and nature crisis and deliver an economy that works for all. Our ambition is large scale, inclusive, transformational change that delivers our collective climate and biodiversity responsibilities. Acting comprehensively across the UK’s largest National Park, you will give residents and visitors the tools to make a difference. With over 45 committed partners, our collective endeavour is for the Cairngorm National Park to become a global exemplar with integrity and heart, where the future is placed in the hands of the people and communities that live, work, and visit here. The People and Nature Thriving Together Programme is in an NLHF development phase which will culminate in the production of a full application to the NLHF.
