You will be an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual who can provide confidential Counselling services for young people in secondary school settings.

You must hold a recognised diploma in Counselling, already have or be working towards BACP/COSCA/NCPS accreditation (as an individual) and have experience of working with young people in a therapeutic way. You will be a reflective practitioner with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of staff, parents and young people. Referrals come through East Renfrewshire HSCP Healthier Minds hub and you will be expected to counsel a range of vulnerable young people aged 10-18 years who may be experiencing emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties. You will have an understanding of adolescent development, be able to identify emotional and mental health problems in young people and where appropriate refer on to higher tiered mental health services.

You will be required to maintain confidential records, provide regular statistical reports and contribute to the development and evaluation of this project.

An exciting position has become available for a Senior Community Link Worker based in our established service in West Lothian.

You will support the service manager and fellow senior in the day to day running of 2 mental health and well-being hubs, based in Bathgate and Livingston. The hubs currently operate Monday-Friday 9-5.

You will be based in one of the Hubs leading a small team of Link Workers and working positively as part of a small MDT including psychology, occupational therapy and mental health nurses.

You will also deliver and support staff to deliver psycho educational groups.

Tiny Changes is Scotland’s first national young people’s mental health charity. We run projects with young leaders that help young minds feel better. The charity was set up in memory of artist and Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison. Through his music and art Scott made tiny changes that had a big impact on people from all walks of life.

We believe that Scotland’s young people deserve great mental health, and we believe in their insight and innovation to make this possible. We exist to nurture the talent of young people to find solutions that work for them.

Over the next two years we'll support young people to co-design and lead Tiny Changes projects, while learning as much as we can about our impact. Our two goals are to invest £1 million in young people’s mental health and to support 10,000 children and young people.

About The Role

At Tiny Changes, we’re preparing to strengthen our Board with new voluntary trustee appointments, one of the trustees will ideally become our Secretary. As part of the Board of trustees, you will be responsible for the overall control and governance of the organisation. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to join a dynamic organisation and make sure the charity maximises its impact.

Trustees are able to serve for a maximum of 3 terms (a term is 3 years). There are currently 4 Trustee Board meetings a year in different locations in Scotland, and conversations in between on emails. We are a small charity that supports military and emergency service veterans who struggle with mental and physical health problems. The therapy team work in a garden site in Dundee. Management functions are carried out by 5 trustees who work from home but are encouraged to drop into the garden to chat with therapists and veterans. We are looking for a trustee to join this management team. Time commitment is up to the individual, their availability and particular skills. Salary and account functions are carried out by the auditors. A background in management, finance, mental health, horticulture, the public sector, human resources or the military would be useful. The charity has a good record of success helping veterans and a sound reputation for administration.

Who we are

The charity aims to help veterans recover their health to a level that enables them to return to work, further education/training or an acceptable level of independent living. Staff also collaborate with a range of local support agencies to address problems such as

finance, housing, mobility limitations, abuse, employment, training and physical health. Staff have created a dedicated therapeutic space where veterans feel safe and are able to engage in a wide range of activities to suit individual needs and abilities. The site is run by 3 qualified staff aided by a gardener. The charity is comfortable supporting 16 veterans and their families at any one time.

Beneficiaries

All beneficiaries engage voluntarily. Most are slow to seek support and need help to understand their problems. Some have a history of substance abuse and require the help of primary care GP services. A fear of crowded places can stop veterans attending crucial medical appointments so that they fall through the safety net provided by the NHS. Social isolation is common. Aided by the therapy team, veterans are encouraged to complete any NHS treatments offered, reconnect with family, friends and community and make new friends in the garden. Former beneficiaries can return for further support if needed.

Our search

Three DTG trustees have been with the charity since it began in 2016. We are looking for a new trustee to inject fresh ideas and up to date skills. We have recently been joined by a volunteer administrator and a volunteer fundraiser. Both have a range of management experience. They have persuaded us to upgrade our IT systems to enhance security, enable remote access and set up role specific email accounts. We have a strong, well qualified team running the Garden and want to ensure that the management team continues to have the right strengths and skills to support them.
