Would you like to join a vibrant, exciting organisation working alongside Dads in North Glasgow and North Lanarkshire?Home-Starts across the UK work alongside families in their own homes and communities to help them prepare for parenthood and challenges they might encounter with family life and young children. We support parents and pregnant families with information and awareness raising, 1:1 volunteer support, and groups. Our tailored support helps families to cope with the stresses and strains of life and make sure they have the skills, confidence, and strength they need to nurture their babies and children and navigate their way through parenthood. We provide a listening ear, and our non-judgemental, compassionate, confidential support offers a vital lifeline to parents and helps ensure children have the best possible start in life.

We know Home-Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire is making a big impact on families with young children in the local area and are now excited to welcome a Dad Matters Coordinator to our team. This is a brand new role and we look forward to embedding learning and knowledge from the Dad Matters model into our service. We are looking for an individual with the passion, vision, and enthusiasm to engage with dads and dads-to-be.

The successful applicant will either be a dad themselves or someone who has equivalent knowledge and experience in working in this type of setting. They will develop local universal and targeted support for dads in the perinatal period. Working with our team of staff and volunteers at Home-Start, Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Services, and with colleagues from Maternity, Health Visiting and Children’s Services, our new Dad Matters Coordinator will raise awareness of the risks of poor mental health in the perinatal period providing support and guidance as required. They will develop our Dad Matters volunteering opportunities and will facilitate and co-facilitate sessions with dads developing links with other community groups.

The role is initially funded for one year with the possibility of extended funding.

Do you have what we are looking for?

  • An understanding of the needs of babies, children, and families
  • An awareness of the impact that poor mental health can have for Dads during the perinatal period
  • Good working knowledge of child protection and child development
  • Experience of developing new relationships and connections
  • Experience of planning, managing, delivering new areas of work
  • The confidence and presence to motivate and inspire others
  • Experience of working alongside volunteers/staff
  • Great IT skills
  • A passion to learn and share your own learning
  • Team player but ability to self-motivate
  • A car driver with access to a car
