Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national independent membership organisation for Care Experienced people. Our mission is to secure a lifetime of equality, respect, and love for Care Experienced people in Scotland and we currently have over 3500 Care Experienced members.
At the heart of Who Cares? Scotland’s work are the rights of Care Experienced people and the power of their voices to bring about change. We provide individual relationship based, lifelong independent advocacy and a range of connection and participation opportunities for Care Experienced people across Scotland. We work alongside Corporate Parents and others to broaden understanding and challenge the stigma experienced by Care Experienced people. We create opportunities for people with lived experience of care to influence policy makers, leaders, and elected representatives locally and nationally to shape legislation, policy and practice. We do this collaboratively to build on the aspirations of The Promise and secure positive change.
You will be joining Who Cares? Scotland at an exciting time, when the voices of those who are in or have experienced care are growing in power, individually and collectively – bringing with them insight, challenge, hope and change.
The Advocacy and Participation Manager will provide leadership and management to our independent advocacy services, and the engagement and empowerment of Care Experienced people who are part of the Champions Boards within the North. The post holder will manage a large team and oversee the development of our community-based participation and inclusive work, schools work and our volunteer model in the North Region, as well as overseeing crucial work of The Promise and its commitment to independent and lifelong advocacy, whilst working with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. The post holder will also work proactively with the Fundraising Team for the benefit of the region, identifying and following up on local sources of additional funding.
The right candidate therefore will be brilliant at forming positive relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds, will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, adaptable to a wide range of contexts, including managing budgets and performance targets, reporting as necessary internally and to other stakeholders such as local and national funding bodies. You will have a proven record of working collaboratively with partners successfully and you will be committed to children’s rights, inclusive working, equal opportunities, and believe that all people can make transformative change happen in their lives if given the opportunity. Some travel, as well as some evening and weekend work, is required due to the remit of the post.
If this sounds like you and you want to help nurture an environment where the voices and views of care experienced people help support positive change, and where needs are met and opportunities are created through our participation and our lifelong advocacy work, then we would love to hear from you.
