About the team
Shelter Scotland operates four Community Hubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen, each offering a range of advice and support services linked to our campaigning, volunteering and fundraising activities. One of those services is Time for Change - our core methodology for the involvement of people with lived experience in our work that has now been embedded across each community hub. Its focus is on identifying issues facing homeless people in their locale and, through involvement and wider consultation, co-producing the design and delivery of a local response to tackle those issues. This is your opportunity to be part of its future.
About the role
As well as supporting the development and delivery of Time for Change in Dundee, we’ll rely on you to support the wider work of the project, including outreach, rights awareness and consultation. You’ll also need to build relationships with individuals with lived experience, help grow a group of peers and provide continuous support and encouragement. Consulting with individuals and stakeholders across the city to determine ‘what better looks like’ will be important too. And, when it comes to developing relationships with relevant external agencies, again, we’ll count on you. Helping to design and develop plans and processes to manage the initiative, collecting and collating service user data and sharing knowledge and information throughout the project – all are part and parcel of this interesting and challenging role.
About you
The success of the project is dependent on assertive outreach, so you’ll need to be a confident individual with great communication skills, who can self-manage and self-motivate. The ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and deal effectively with change is also essential, as is a proactive, client-focused and collaborative approach, great relationship building skills and respect for others’ opinions. Housing and homelessness work experience isn’t essential, but you’ll need to bring a passion for Shelter Scotland’s issues and be willing to learn and gain experience to provide guidance on housing, homelessness, money and debt and welfare benefits.

Do you have some experience of advice work, preferably with a focus on housing issues, and a real desire to advance your specialist level knowledge? About the role
In our Community Team, we identify, investigate and intervene in housing and homelessness issues. We are engaged in our local communities to understand the housing issues people are facing, and we apply our expertise to work toward solutions. Lived experience of the housing emergency is at the heart of everything we do.
Role specifics
You will have the ability to engage and work collaboratively with individuals, communities and with all stakeholders, including running group workshops and presentations. You have experience, knowledge of and/or proven ability in housing and homelessness advice and advocacy, with the ability to progress to specialist level knowledge. Essential to the role will be good time management, carrying out casework related interviews, maintaining detailed case records and offering advice and support to clients to inform their decisions.

Street fit Scotland (SFS) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Community Connection Volunteer Co-ordinator. This role will involve working independently and as part of a team to lead and manage and train a growing volunteer network, providing coaching, development opportunities, and nurturing connections with the local community. The successful candidate will be proactive, empathetic, and passionate about supporting people to reach their full potential.
Main Purpose of the Role
This role is central to the continued growth and development of Street Fit Scotland’s (SFS) volunteer offering. As Community Connection Volunteer Co-ordinator, you will lead with empathy, creativity, and a person-centred approach, encouraging and supporting our members to step into volunteer roles. You’ll provide inclusive, tailored support to help individuals flourish, ensuring every volunteer journey aligns with SFS’s core values of kindness and inclusion.
You’ll oversee all aspects of the volunteer function, developing meaningful roles, delivering training, nurturing development, and building a connected, supported, and empowered community.
Our main aim is to offer sessional work to volunteers when they pass the 6-month probation as we SFS values lived experience.
Key Responsibilities
As the main point of contact for all volunteers, you will be fully integrated into the heart of SFS activities, forming trusted relationships with both volunteers and wider community members. Your work will focus on meeting people where they are, understanding complex needs, offering emotional and practical support, and providing a bridge to meaningful experiences and future opportunities.
Volunteer Support & Development
- Deliver person-centred emotional and practical support to all volunteers and community members.
- Provide one-to-one and group support for community members exploring volunteering, helping them progress at their own pace.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting members at SFS Working with individuals affected by homelessness, addiction, and trauma.
