An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the University of Stirling Students’ Union to support our democratic and representative work. As Democracy and Representation Coordinator you’ll work in partnership with a range of internal and external colleagues to support the student voice at the University of Stirling, working in a highly flexible and dynamic environment to help facilitate our democratic activities and enhance the student experience for all.

About You

We’re looking for a talented and passionate individual to join our Membership Services division. You’ll be driven, using your initiative to support a wide range of organisational initiatives, programmes and projects. Specific duties of the role include:

Democracy & Policy

  • Act as Deputy Returning Officer, supporting our Elections’ Committee in coordinating and administering the elections process.
  • Coordinate democratic events, from small consultation forums to large democratic decision-making bodies.
  • Provide administrative support, including Minute taking, for various Union meetings.
  • Maintain the Union’s democratic policy archive and assist student officers in the formation of policy.
  • Advise and ensure that decisions are in line with governing documents, transparent and accessible to stakeholders.
  • Support and coordinate the Students’ Union’s response to internal/external consultations.
  • Coordinate joint strategy work between the Students’ Union and University alongside relevant colleagues.
  • Work alongside the University to enhance the student experience through mechanisms such as the Student Partnership Agreement.

Academic Quality

  • Act as the staff lead for the appointment and development of the faculty officer team, organising the recruitment and selection processes, coordinating development events and providing one to one and small group coaching on an ongoing basis.
  • Keep abreast of Sector and University policy developments.
  • Provide briefing sessions and meeting preparation for Sabbatical and Executive Officers, e.g., Student Partnership Agreement and NUS Delegates.
  • Coordinate and administer the Union’s Recognising and Advancing Teaching Excellence Awards (RATE).
  • Undertake data analysis of relevant internal/external campaigns and surveys, e.g., RATE (internal) and National Student Survey (external).
  • Act as staff lead for academic quality related activities within learning and teaching to improve meaningful student engagement, in particular the Enhancement Led Institutional Review (ELIR) and Learning & Teaching Reviews (LTRs).

Representation

  • Support the Students’ Union student academic representative network, coordinating their recruitment, development and ongoing engagement.
  • Develop and maintain a database of elected student academic representatives and identify any gaps in representative coverage.
  • Maintain and update all relevant electronic materials, to enable student academic representatives and faculty officers to work effectively.
  • Provide regular communication with student academic representatives and faculty officers through meetings, the Students’ Union website, emails, social media and other means.
  • In collaboration with the Communications Manager, organise and implement Sabbatical Officer induction and training.
