Role

Established in November 1998, based on the initial vision of promoting a culture of financial literacy and resilience within the lower paid workforce, NHS Credit Union has become one of the largest and most progressive Credit Unions in Scotland. Its mission is to promote financial well-being and a savings culture in the NHS industry whilst also reducing financial stress in staff and providing ethical financial assistance to those who need it.

Striving to become the ‘Lender of Choice’ for all NHS employees and their families, NHS Credit Union is looking to recruit an inspiring and passionate leader who will be responsible for the strategic development, leadership and operational management of the organisation, ensuring it meets its statutory and regulatory obligations and complies with the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) standards.

Providing strategic vision, direction and ethical leadership the new Chief Executive, in partnership with the board, will be tasked with developing a new 5-year strategy which enables achievement of NHS Credit Union’s social objectives and delivers long term and sustained growth.

Raising the profile of the organisation, its products and shared values you will build and maintain strategic relationships with executive NHS leaders across Scottish Health boards, North England Trusts and Trade Union leaders to promote new and evolving financial services and associated benefits of NHS Credit Union membership. Maintaining and enhancing NHS Credit Union’s reputation, credibility and profile you will ensure the organisation continues to play a leading role in developing and shaping Scottish Government policy, influencing change and providing greater access to affordable credit and savings plans.

Committed to the ethos of the credit union movement and to NHS Credit Union’s core mission of reducing economic inequality, you will be an innovative, inclusive and collaborative leader with direct experience leading an organisation or business function to deliver against key strategic priorities. With a broad awareness or the ability to quickly gain an understanding, of the legislative framework, governance, and compliance arrangements applicable to the finance industry, the successful candidate will also have excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills coupled a proven track record in building respectful collaborative and strategic partnerships with a range of stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an organisation that provides people with the opportunity to achieve a greater degree of financial control in their lives and reduces the blight of social exclusion by providing an easily accessible and focused savings and loan alternative to high interest debt options.
