Support in Mind Scotland have an exciting opportunity for a Maternity Leave position to work as part of its Suicide Bereavement Support Service in the Highlands.
We are seeking an individual who wants to support their community by helping families affected by suicide and who has a good understanding of compassionate, person-centred support work.
This Suicide Bereavement Support Service is provided as a partnership between Support in Mind Scotland, who primarily provide support in the Highlands (including Argyll and Bute), and Penumbra, who primarily provide support in Ayrshire and Arran. Both organisations collaborate to deliver the best possible outcomes for families bereaved by suicide.
The service is not an alternative to specialist mental health services or a substitute for bereavement counselling. Instead, it is designed to be a supportive liaison service that can offer practical assistance at a distressing time, by providing early advice and assistance to bereaved families, practical support (e.g. help with arranging a funeral and advice on financial issues), safety plans, assessments of need, and by signposting to local support organisations. The service takes referrals from a wide range of sources including community groups and statutory and third sector agencies, as well as self-referrals.
Based in the Highlands, you will be part of a joint-agency team that includes colleagues from both charities. Offering early advice and assistance, you will provide telephone, and online support to bereaved family members and connect them with specialist local services in their area. You will also build connections with organisations and groups that can support bereaved families. Your work may involve some travel within the Highlands during the working week.
If you are interested in enabling Support in Mind Scotland to deliver this innovative and vital new service and you feel that your profile matches this role’s criteria, then we want to hear from you!
