An exciting opportunity to be part of a motivated and well established team providing interventions for Young People with Drug and Alcohol misuse needs within the criminal justice system

About The Role

We are looking for a dynamic and committed individual to join our Subwize Young People’s service in Barking and Dagenham, working with a creative and supportive team. This rewarding and exciting role will be delivering an exciting pilot supporting those involved with substance misuse treatment services to learn to read and to develop wider literacy skills, with all of the associated benefits this provides.

You will also identify, recruit, train and support volunteer reading coaches who will work directly with these service users. They will be an essential part of this project, providing direct support to those we work with. You will also lead on the development and delivery of training for colleagues within the complex criminal justice team, the adult and young people’s substance misuse teams and other partners and professionals on literacy support.

You will

  • Be responsible for coordinating the delivery of reading support and other ETE related interventions for YP referred to the Complex Criminal Justice Team.
  • Liaise directly with keyworkers to manage referrals and ensure that 1:1 reading support sessions and other ETE related interventions are provided according to identified need.
  • Liaise closely with key partners to support the ongoing development of this element of the service.
  • Support the recruitment, training of Volunteer Reading Coaches
  • Deliver training and awareness raising sessions to staff from within the Complex Criminal Justice Team, and external partners as required.
  • Track and monitor progress and ensuring qualitative and quantitative outcomes are recorded.
  • Disseminate key learning and supporting the ongoing development of the pilot by attending relevant local forums.

Conditions

  • Salary band: £24,627 - £29,000 per annum
  • 22.5 hours per week, Fixed term contract (12 months)

Location

The role is based at the Subwize, but much of your time will be working with service users at partner locations such as the Youth Offending service. There is an expectation you will be able to travel across the borough.
