Job purpose: This new role provides strategic and operational HR support to all areas of Friends of the Earth Scotland.

General remit: 2023 is an exciting year of change for FoES: we are developing a new three-year strategy and significantly reviewing all our HR processes and procedures. This role provides operational and strategic support to both the Head of Operations and the Director, and will significantly contribute towards the development of a new, aligned, HR strategy. Operationally, the role will provide advice and guidance to managers on best practice, organisational HR policies, terms and conditions of employment and employment law, attending the FoES Management Team meeting for HR related discussions and decisions.

The Ian Findlay Path Fund (IFPF) first opened in August 2022 and allocated £1.3M towards path projects before the end of March 2023. It is about to enter the second round with a further £1.5M funding available to be allocated this year. It is named after our late Chief Officer.

The fund ensures that local path networks and routes are available and suitable for daily travel needs of the communities they serve. It helps to build-in climate resilience to local path management and funds path development and improvement to remove barriers and increase walking, wheeling and active travel within and between communities.

The Development Officer, Ian Findlay Path Fund has a key role in supporting the continued development of the fund and the delivery of its aims and objectives.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills alongside a commitment and passion for encouraging and developing community development and behaviour change linked to the sustainable transport sector.

This fund is a significant investment in active and sustainable travel. Therefore, the role has responsibility to demonstrate how our funding contributes to Scotland’s climate change and public health priorities whilst also supporting communities and organisations across Scotland to build back after the COVID pandemic.

Job Purpose:

Working as part of the FEL team, you will work closely with local stakeholders, communities and people living in the Forth Valley to support social and environmental change. We want to encourage people to live more climate friendly and healthier lifestyles, but we understand that climate change can be complicated, so we need to ensure the way we talk about it isn’t. Your role will be focussed on community engagement activity in the Falkirk area, as part of delivering the Falkirk Food Futures programme & climate action engagement. This role will support both community organisations and volunteers to help more people grow their own food in Falkirk. This role will also help communities to get more actively involved in climate action.

FEL is leading on the development of a Sustainable Food Places partnership for Falkirk and Climate Action, this role will also contribute towards this work.
