Our vibrant service in Galashiels provides support to people concerned about their own or someone else's alcohol or drug use. We have services across the Scottish borders but much of our work is carried out in the local communities we serve.

We are looking for an experienced Community Navigator to join our team in the Scottish Borders. This role is designed to assertively engage individuals in the Community setting and provide support to access the residential rehabilitation pathway. You will need experience of working in substance misuse, offering one-to-one and group work facilitation, first class assessment and support planning skills, risk management and safeguarding.

A good working knowledge of local services and appropriate referral pathways, and support agencies. Ideally the successful candidates will have outstanding communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a team player in a collaborative and supportive manner. You will be someone who thrives under pressure, has good time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to work well with others.

In addition you will need to be positive, confident and well organised with experience of working with people in a recovery, health, social care or criminal justice setting.

The successful candidate will be required to deliver services within the community so a driving license is essential.

We offer intensive support to vulnerable adults affected by drug use and so may have complex vulnerabilities.

You will be our ideal candidate if you have experience of and a particular interest in the drug and alcohol field, if you can work well as part of a team and have experience of maintaining excellent links with a range of partner agencies.

Salary is dependent on experience

REQUIRED SKILLS

To carry out this job successfully you will:

  • have SVQ level 3 in Social Services & Healthcare or equivalent
  • be able to show your continuous professional development
  • be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or meet the requirements for registration
  • be able to demonstrate your experience or working in health, social care or other relevant specialist setting
  • have a proven track record of working with substance misuse
  • have knowledge and understanding of group working, assessments, care plans and key working, along with the issues facing those who misuse substances and the solutions used for their rehabilitation
  • have knowledge and understanding of health & safety in a healthcare setting, including managing high risk situations
  • demonstrate how you have built successful working relationships with a range of people from different backgrounds and professions
  • be able to work effectively within a team environment
  • be organised, able to prioritise and show resilience when working under pressure
  • have good written and spoken communcations skills
  • be comfortable using IT packages and digital media
  • have aclean driving license and use of your own vehicle
  • This role requires a satisfactory enhanced PVG certificate.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

While not essential, any candidates who also has lived experience of drug and/or alcohol use will be at an advantage.
