Role

Do you dream about a career where you make a real difference to people’s lives? We are looking for Principal Advisor to join our Affordable Warmth Service to take a lead role in tackling fuel poverty in Scotland. If you are an experienced people manager who can motivate and inspire a team, then we need you.

As a Principal Advisor, you’ll be supporting our Affordable Warmth Service to provide people with crucial support to get through the growing energy crisis. Our Affordable Warmth Service is on the frontline, providing a range of information and support to the public including signposting, advice, advocacy and support for people, particularly for those in fuel poverty, and awareness-raising and engagement activity at talks and events.

We are seeking to recruit a Principal Advisor to manage, inspire and coach a mixed team of Affordable Warmth and Administrative Advisors. Our advisor team is currently expanding to support more people in need and to drive energy efficiency. Our Principal Advisor will take a lead role in running this team and supporting them to provide high quality services to those in need. The work the team does can be complex, and our customers are often in acute need, meaning the role can be highly rewarding as you can make a real difference to someone’s life. You’ll be key to the delivery of a range of projects across the service that will help make a positive impact.

You’ll have experience of delivering advice, and an understanding of the challenges of working with vulnerable, low-income households. You’ll also be an excellent communicator and be a strong role model for professional behaviour. You’ll be leading by example to inspire and lead your team. Ideally, you’ll have a strong track record as a people manager with a motivational coaching style.

If you already have knowledge of energy advice, billing or a City and Guilds in Energy Awareness that is a bonus, but it isn’t necessary. If needed, we will provide you with in-house training on energy advice as well as the City and Guilds in Energy Awareness qualification. You’ll also receive leadership and management training as part of your ongoing personal development.

Benefits

Changeworks is a great place to work. We hold Investors in People Platinum accreditation (something only a few organisations in Scotland have), and we were nominated for employer of the year by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce this year. Our staff overwhelmingly would recommend us as an employer too.

The Climate Emergency has resulted in ambitious national targets to reduce carbon emissions from the built environment and reduce rates of fuel poverty. This has driven a significant increase in the number of pilot and large-scale interventions delivered by Changeworks and external organisations in this area. These include area-based domestic energy efficiency retrofit and decarbonisation projects and programmes.

We are a growing organisation, and this role is crucial to the delivery of our ambitious objectives. We want to decarbonise homes in Scotland on a massive scale, and that needs talented individuals like you to help us deliver on our objectives. You’ll receive full training plus coaching and mentoring.

We offer a wide range of staff benefits including flexible working, bike to work scheme, an excellent pension scheme and 26 days paid holiday plus 9 public holidays per year.

At Changeworks, we welcome and encourage applications from everyone.
