Role

Newmains Community Trust is a Big Lottery flagship project. We were awarded £2.3 million – the largest ever Big Lottery grant – to develop a Community Hub.

The Centre has been open for almost 7 years now and is heavily used by local individuals and groups. We also have social objectives that we work towards:

“To create jobs and to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Newmains. We are looking for a new Chairperson and Trustees who can continue to lead the charity through the next phase of its strategic development”

Key tasks and responsibilities for Chair and Trustees:

  • Set and maintain the vision, mission, and values of the organisation.
  • Develop direction, strategy, and planning.
  • Ensure the organisation has the structure and resources for its work.
  • Maintain policies and procedures to govern organisational activity, including guidance for the board, volunteers, and staff.
  • Manage risk, ensuring compliance and accountability with the governing document, external regulators, and the law

Chairperson:we are seeking someone who has previous experience of chairing a voluntary organisation, charity or business which has premises, and which employs staff. This person will contribute their time and experience voluntarily.

The Chairperson’s role will be to provide leadership to the Board of Directors, who sets policy and to whom the Centre Manager is accountable. In addition, they will

  • Chair meetings of the Board after developing the agenda with the Centre Manager.
  • Encourages the Board's role in strategic planning
  • Help guide and mediate Board actions with respect to organisational priorities and governance concerns.
  • Review with the Centre Manager any issues of concern to the Board.
  • Monitors financial planning and financial reports and plays a leading role in fundraising activities

Trustees: We are seeking someone who will contribute their time and expertise on a voluntary basis, should have an active interest in the local community. We want a lively and diverse board of Trustees, and although no prior experience is necessary, we would be interested to hear from individuals with skills and experience in:

  • HR
  • Financial management
  • Facilities Management
  • Fundraising and Networking
  • Management in the Public, Private or Voluntary Sector

The board meets quarterly from within the Centre, and in addition, it is expected that they will be available to respond to email and telephone calls from their fellow Board Members and the Centre Manager during the working week in a timely manner.
