Role
The protection of Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage, its flora and fauna, and its landscapes and buildings is a core purpose of the National Trust for Scotland, driving activities across the organisation, and informing its identity as a charity, as well as the identity of Scotland and its people. All of these elements are fundamentally threatened by the impacts of climate change. As such, action in response to climate change is a central concern for the Trust.
This has been recognised for a number of years by the Trust and work has been taken forward including development of a Climate Change Action Plan, an adaptation assessment, renewable energy initiatives, climate risk modelling and energy reduction strategies. Unfortunately, some of this momentum was lost during the pandemic but the Trust has recently published a renewed commitment to mitigating and adapting to climate change within its published 10 Year Strategy which includes a target to be carbon negative by 2031. The Trust has also recently concluded an estate wide natural capital baseline assessment.
The Trust has been monitoring its environmental performance in compliance with ESOS and SECR reporting requirements. Planning and reporting against our carbon negative target will require the introduction of new policies, systems and approaches to be adopted across the organisation through procurement, people management and the management of buildings and land.
JOB PURPOSE
This job exists to:
Lead on policy, standards and guidance on environmental management to create the framework to enable the organisation to address its target of being carbon negative by 2031 and be transitioning to be more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead on development of environmental management policy, standards, target setting and guidance.
- Be responsible for reporting on environmental performance including ESOS and SECR and relevant internal performance reporting including key performance indicators and the annual report.
- Be responsible for ensuring the organisation has sufficient systems in place to manage and report against environmental performance- notably carbon equivalent emissions, waste management, water and energy efficiency
- Establish a new NTS forum for coordination of environmental management, performance monitoring and sharing best practice
- Provide advice to property and national function staff on request and through production of briefings and contribution to project and strategy development
- Act as the lead NTS contact for environmental management issues with external bodies including Scottish Government, SEPA and Scottish Environment LINK
- Lead on relevant Scottish and UK Government consultations relating to environmental management issues
- Line manage the Climate Change Officer and oversee development of the Trust’s climate change adaptation policies, plans and guidance.
- Act as a key media spokesperson for NTS on environmental management issues contributing material to NTS communications
- Contribute to the wider work of the department and the Trust as required

This is a collaborative role that will suit an organised, proactive individual with solid experience of using Microsoft Dynamics 365 to monitor and manage projects. Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is seeking a new Curator for Research to work closely with individuals and groups within our overlapping communities to devise, fundraise for, deliver and communicate exceptional experiences for sharing ideas and new work.
The Curator for Research's role is to devise and deliver programme which furthers our support for artists and helps to define the role of ESW within the visual arts sector in Scotland and internationally, and to manage and evaluate this programme within the wider context of ESW's activities and ambitions. This is a highly practical role and one where there is scope to innovate and adapt, through a mode of joint reflection, experimentation and openness to create new ways to be ambitious for our stakeholders and for contemporary sculpture practice in general.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Baird Trust (& 3 other grant giving charities *) is seeking a skilled and committed accountant. This is an important role, overseeing the charities financial operations and ensuring strong financial stewardship. You will be responsible for bookkeeping, management and statutory accounts, budgeting, financial compliance and reporting to the four Boards. Acting as Trust Secretary to each of the four Boards.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Purpose of the role
To oversee and manage all aspects of financial operations for The Baird Trust and three other charities, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and managing the financial operations of the organisations. The role includes bookkeeping, financial reporting, budgeting and statutory accounts. Act as Secretary of the four trusts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate financial records using SAGE and EXCEL.
- Manage and classify receipts and payments and allocate the transactions to the correct ledger accounts.
Financial management and reporting
- Produce management accounts four times a year.
- Monitor cash flow.
- Prepare annual budgets for the Boards of Directors.
- Recording Investment transactions.
Statutory Accounting
- Prepare and finalise statutory accounts in accordance with the Charity SORP.
- Liaise with the Auditors/ Independent Examiner and ensure timely submission of the Annual Accounts to Companies House and OSCR.
Governance, compliance and advisory
- Ensure compliance with the Companies Act and Scottish Charities legislation.
- Act as Company Secretary for relevant submissions and documentation.
Trust Secretarial duties
- Prepare agendas for Board meetings.
- Attend Board meetings and take the Minutes.
- Pay all grants awarded.
- Manage day to day operation of the trusts and trust office and staff.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
- Internal: Boards of Trustees and part- time Administrator.
- External: Auditors/Independent Examiner, Companies House, OSCR, Investment Advisors, Insurance Broker.
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant (CA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent experience) with strong charity finance experience including management accounts and statutory reporting. Familiarity with Charity SORP and regulations for non-profits and excellent working knowledge of SAGE accounting software.
Proficient in excel. Excellent attention to detail. Able to communicate financial information clearly.
Knowledge of property management.
