Role

Go Girvan: Community Led Tourism is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced person to support and develop community-led tourism projects. The opportunity is offered as a self-employed contract at a rate of £16.50 per hour. The expectation is that the post-holder will work 32.5 hours per week. The post is for 12 months, with an option to extend dependent on funding. Primary job description is listed below and should be used in tandem with the identified Tourism Action Plan 2021-2022, Community Led Tourism Priorities in the Thriving Places Plan (2021) and South Ayrshire Council Tourism & Events Strategy. These documents can be provided on request.

Key Tasks:

  • Support Go Girvan: Community Led Tourism to project manage and deliver a range of projects to improve Girvan and its tourism offer, including
  • Development and delivery of marketing and tourism strategy both online and in-person;
  • Support for large-scale, long-term projects including an Ailsa Craig Centre, Tourist Information Point, and other opportunities as they arise;
  • Planning and delivery of events and festivals including Tattie Fest, Stumpy Open Day, and support for community groups in the delivery of events.
  • Assist the Board to prepare and submit funding applications for projects;
  • Liaise with community groups, statutory organisations and business when required in the delivery of projects
  • Attend regular Board meetings, prepare material, minutes and undertake other administrative duties;
  • Work with the GG:CLT Board to create an updated Tourism Action Plan for Girvan 2024-2027 and the surrounding area;
  • React to new opportunities which could be either collaborative projects, new projects, or funding;
  • Record timesheets and document work via monthly reports to the Board;
  • Any other duties as negotiated.

Consultation Specification, Professional Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Ability to manage and deliver a range of projects and work with key stakeholders on those projects;
  • Experience of completing funding applications, and strong knowledge of funding spheres;
  • Ability to effectively present oral and written reports and information to a wide variety of audiences, including private, public and third sector organisations, and communities;
  • Good knowledge of Girvan and its surroundings;
  • Strong understanding of Community-Led Tourism Initiatives in Scotland and the UK;
  • Experience of working with and engaging with people from different age groups;
  • Experience and strong working knowledge of developing social media profiles and managing blogs and other digital media;
  • Excellent organisational skills, including ability to manage a demanding workload, record own time, meet deadlines and work well on your own initiative;
  • High standard of computer literacy including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Positive attitude, flexible, including the willingness to adapt to the needs of the project officer role;
  • Assistance with day-to-day finances alongside the treasurer.

Desirable:

  • Current driving licence and access to car with appropriate insurance cover;
  • Hold a qualification or degree in tourism or tourism-adjacent subjects.

About Go Girvan: Community Led Tourism

GG:CLT is a two-tier Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization (SCIO), with Board Trustees and a membership of 140+ community members. We started the project in 2021 and have since delivered a wide range of projects including a new tourism website (gogirvan.co.uk), new social media profiles, revamping and supporting the volunteer-led Tourist Information Point, commissioning a feasibility study for an Ailsa Craig Centre, undertaking an Accommodation Scoping Report, and creating and delivering Tattie Fest in 2022 and 2023.
